Managing Quantity Surveyor - Scottish Power- FrameworkCompetitive salary + car & packageGlasgow - ScotlandOur client is one of the largest Utility EPC Contractors in the UK and Ireland. Due to the high demands of the energy transition they have an excellent pipeline of work for the foreseeable future providingthe right candidates the opportunity to join a very stable growing business and build their career over the next 10 years and beyond.The roleWe are looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor, who will be part of the Commercial Team and be responsible for leading a team of Quantity Surveyors to deliver a portfolio of commercial activities and ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management.Ensuring all sub-contractors and suppliers have submitted compliant quotations/enquiries/applications within the timescale required and produce all documentation to select and secure services as well as monthly assessments, variations/CE claims and final accountagreements through coaching of the Quantity Surveyor.Key responsibilities;* Manage the performance and development of the Quantity Surveyors to ensure key contract objectives are documented and delivered.* Support the Commercial Manager in identifying areas for improvement, leading on initiatives as appropriate.* Manage direct reports in accordance with company policy (e.g., attendance, performance reviews).* Maximise staff engagement through actively contributing at team talks, address staff issues, identifying development needs, deliver as appropriate toolbox talks, safety briefings and team briefs.* Compile relevant information for preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales.* Always assist with the ongoing implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel whilst developing lasting relationships with Business Units and Construction Managers.* Constantly refer to the project risk management plan for thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessment. Monitor the register and any related documentation in accordance with the plan.* Actively increase knowledge of commercial issues and contract law with a view to managing and agreeing compensation events/variations/claims.* Actively suggest and develop processes for increased accuracy and efficiency minimising time journal and reconciliation tasks.* Liaison with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure appropriate commercial cover is maintained.* Assist the team and Construction Managers, First line Managers and Planners with regard to recovery of contract costs together with enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays and claims.* Assist with production of monthly project financial and forecast to complete reports for analysis with Finance staff and Commercial Staff.* Develop sound and balanced negotiating skills.* Attend when requested handover and progress meetings.* Help produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations.* People management responsibilities including, but not limited to, supervision of direct reports, absence management, performance management, liaising with HR for advice when necessary.* Utilisation of relevant people management systems and processes in order to adequately undertake responsibilities e.g. Oracle, Empactis etc.* To undertake any other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needsThe candidate* Develop, communicate and implement strategy at an organisational level.* Ability to lead and implement change management and change management programme.* Excellent conceptual understanding of legislative compliance and the holistic end to end processes.* Previous experience in operating at senior management or director level.* Developing relationships, influencing others, decision making, planning and organisation design.* Previous experience in managing high volume operations including commercial, legal, and contractual.* Ability to lead and influence teams to enhance performance and demonstrate improvements.* Exceptional ability to present data in a way that informs decisions and to coach others to do the same.* Experience of operating within a budgeted management framework including implementing appropriate cost controls / reductions initiatives.* Demonstrate integrity and recognise the benefits of an inclusive and diverse team.* Ability to manage the demands of the business and the Clients expectations.* Ability to create, articulate vision, demonstrate and implement Improvement Plans.* Good verbal and written communication skills.* Excellent numeracy skill.* Use of Microsoft Office applications - High level knowledge of Excel.* Preferably Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or other relevant business discipline.* Non degree holders should have a demonstrable record of success with extensive experience in similar roles.* Full UK Driving LicenceWhy joinThis is a great opportunity for an individual to work on major National Grid projects with an excellent work life balance and the opportunity to work from home, anywhere in the UK.* 25 days annual leave plus 8 days bank holiday* Annual bonus* Pension scheme* Life Assurance* Private health care* Company car/ car allowance and fuel cardIf you are interested to learn more, contact Dean Forster at Tempest Jones, or apply now by submitting your CV.
