Job Description

Our client is a prestigious manufacturing business in the heart of West Yorkshire who as part of their continued success seeks an experienced Shift Manager to effectively manage the production team on a shift rotating basis.As Shift Manager you will ensure all targeted KPIs are met, which include Safety, Training, Employee Engagement, Efficiencies, Quality and Material Usage achieving this by leading the teams through day-to-day activities, liaising with other departmentsin constantly changing situations and ensuring the department always runs effectively and efficiently. you will also be expected to provide excellent customer service to all parts of the business and ensure that all requests and requirements are met in a timelymanner.Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for all products being manufactured during the shift, at the right efficiency, correct specification and the desired level of quality.
  • Effectively communicate team and production targets to other areas of the business, review them regularly to ensure the shift is operating at peak efficiency.
  • Continually look to improve the shift, supporting and leading a culture of continuous improvement in all areas.
  • Monitor and reduce waste generation.
  • Analyse equipment downtime to identify improvement opportunities and liaise with the Maintenance team to improve performance.
  • Collate and track performance information and drive performance using data where possible.
  • Ensure all Management Information is recorded and shared as required on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Work effectively with all other departments within the business to ensure that we deliver the highest quality product at the correct cost.
  • Respond effectively to changes in planning requirements to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Responsibility for labour requirements ensuring adequate cover to meet production schedules, whilst minimising cost.
  • Provide an effective handover at the end of each shift to ensure smooth running of production operations.
  • Out of hours lead for the area whilst on shift.
  • Health and Safety for all Production personnel and designated areas of responsibility.
  • Demand a clean and safe working environment from all employees.
  • Lead regular communication meetings for the shift.
  • Ensure staff are fully trained and competent in their roles.
  • Plan and implement training as and when required for all employees and yourself.
  • Develop the level of multi-skilling in the team.
  • Maintain and review the training matrix regularly, ensuring adherence to these processes.
  • Recruitment of suitable employees both directly and liaising with appropriate agencies and conducting necessary checks for right to work etc.
  • Undertake day to day management of your team including training, inductions, welfare, performance and capability, absence management and conduct.
  • Dealing with poor performance in a constructive way, promoting a culture of learning through failure and rectifying any issues you come across.
  • Take responsibility for the Time Recording System for your staff ensuring and any issues are appropriately investigated and are correctly recorded and managed.
