Job Description

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading business based in Mirfield as they look to appoint a Payroll Supervisor into their busy team. Reporting directly into the Group Financial Controller, you will take responsibility for overseeing a team of two Payroll Administrators as well as overseeing the efficient running of an end-to-end payroll for over 500 employees. You will lead on the payrollsystem and time/attendance system and reporting capability of payroll information as well as ensuring the accurate and efficient calculation of wages/salaries and the processing of relevant tax and company deductions on a timely basis.Key Responsibilities:Payroll

  • Supervise the work of payroll team members
  • Allocate and monitor tasks to make sure they are completed accurately and on time
  • Liaise with human resources department to monitor and report on joiners, leavers, absence, holidays and pay rates
  • Help to create, maintain and develop payroll policies and procedures
  • Define standard operating procedures and ensure they remain up-to-date and relevant through a process of continuous improvement.
  • Make sure that payroll software is efficient and up to date
  • Make sure that all payroll staff receive the right training
  • Advise on topics including payment processes, query resolution, SSP, SMP, taxes, etc
  • Use own initiative to resolve issues and to assist the team where possible, by providing a range of solutions and seeking advice where necessary
  • Proactively develop and keep up to date with new payroll legislation and compliance
  • Responsible for end to end payroll processes including reconciliation and analysis
  • Analyse and report on payroll data to the Group Financial Controller
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to process, systems, and people to drive change
  • Communicate effectively with employees, external stakeholders (audit, HMRC), and internal management
  • Support preparation for death-in-service and Group pension recertification
Safety
  • Ensure that all group Safety policies are adhered to within your areas of responsibility
  • Health & Safety for the team and designated areas of responsibility, lead the improvement of safety standards and engaging with the teams to improve behavioural culture
  • Demand a clean and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Lead regular communication meetings for the team as required
  • Ensure accident investigation procedures are followed and the documentation is completed, and actions followed up in a timely manner
  • Ensure all quality issues raised by employees are managed in line with quality and audit processes
Team Management
  • Lead and motivate the Payroll team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Monitor the performance of the team by setting and reviewing goals
  • Develop the team through effective training and management.
  • Recruit and train staff ensuring that the department is appropriately resourced to deal with fluctuations in workload.
  • Planning and organising self and others to accomplish specific goals
  • Ensure teams are supported cross-functionally to achieve their objectives
Person Specification
  • Demonstratable experience of supervising a team with the ability to ensure everyone achieves their objectives
  • Motivate/lead the team to be an example in terms of both performance and behaviour
  • Experience working in a similar payroll processing environment, within the context of a fast-paced organisation
  • Good IT skills including Payroll software and MS Office software knowledge
  • Excellent MS Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups & accurate data entry)
  • Strong written, verbal communication and people skills with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Well planned, organised with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work flexibly, and autonomously, with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Desire for process improvement and challenging the status quo.
  • Ability to drive change through implementing new processes and procedures
  • Good team player, willing to share knowledge and ideas and to learn from team members
  • In-depth Payroll knowledge including PAYE/NIC, statutory payments, other deductions and year-end procedures, auto re-enrolment requirements including declarations, National Minimum Wage compliance, Benefits in kind and GDPR
