Job Description

Overview and Responsibilities Part Time learning Support PractitionerLocation: Minehead, SomersetSalary:£12,701.00 - £13,855.68 (FTE £22,880.00 - £24,960.00)Hours: 24 Hours per week – Term time only plus 10 additional daysWelcome to Aurora Foxes, a specialist college and training hotel for young people with learning disabilities, situated in the friendly seaside town of Minehead. Foxes is a very special place.We believe in changing lives and giving our students the skills, knowledge, and confidence to successfully shape their own future. Our aim is to equip our young adults with the life and hospitality skills to become work ready, life ready.The main purpose of the role:As one of our Learning Support Practitioners your role will be to assist our students in our residential houses and at Foxes Hotel, to help achieve our mission which is to equip young adultswith learning disabilities to find sustainableemployment in the hospitality sector and to live independentlyThe role does require all successful candidates to be able to work a mixture of shifts, 7am-3pm, 2pm-10pm and 10am-6pm on a 2 week rota pattern.Key Duties:

  • As an LSP we expect you to have high expectations of all students, and to constantly challenge and stretch each student at every opportunity.
  • As an LSP we expect you at all times, and under the guidance of the House Team Leaders/Tutors, to support the students in their learning, enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • We expect all LSPs to professionally and effectively support with managing student behaviour, seeking further advice and guidance where appropriate.
  • Work professionally and collaboratively with the session tutor to develop a positive, constructive and proactive relationship that benefits the students and contributes significantly to their success within each session and over the duration of the course.
  • Use strategies to promote students’ wider skills development, such as in communication, self-advocacy, presentation skills and team work.
  • Work professionally 1:1 with students as directed by House Team Leaders and other LSP’s, monitoring their personal management and independent skills.

  • Experience in a similar role desirable but training can be provided for the right candidate
  • Experience in supporting in the care or education industry
  • Desirable an understanding of working with people with a disability
  • Level 2 in English and Maths
  • Desirable Level 3 qualification in education or care
