Job Description

Network Maintenance TOTEX Technician - AssuranceLocation: Wear - Cannon ParkSalary -£42,345.00 + Operational Incentive MechanismJob Purpose:The job holder works within the Network Maintenance environment across all pressure reduction and pipelines assets and carries out work of a specialist/complex nature and/or co-ordinates the work of others in NGNs operational team.The position will be subject to mentoring and support from the wider team to help develop the individual skill and competence. This role is a development opportunity for aspiring Site Managers or Project Managers within the Network Maintenance and CapitalProjects work basket.Principal Accountabilities:Work towards Authorising Engineers for:

  • Permit to work - Deep Excavations, Hot Works, Working at Heights, Lifting Ops, Demolition and Toxic Materials
  • G17 Originator and Owner
  • To be the originator (write) non - routine operations
  • Co-ordinate work for teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system.
  • Receive instructions and requests, plan and organise resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently.
  • Undertake installations and maintenance work on pressure reduction installations, holders, compressor stations, heaters, pipework, valves, filters, meters and associated equipment; this may involve complex work and/or specialist knowledge.
  • Respond to emergencies, participate in standby when required and undertake testing, survey, detection and diagnostic work which may be of a complex nature, reporting results, ensuring safety and taking appropriate action in order to maintain the transportationsystem and associated equipment.
  • Carry out site assurance activities to promote best practice.
  • Provide coaching and support to the field teams
  • Support the Site Manager team in the delivery of the Maintenance workload
  • Support pipelines delivery including project delivery and ILI Support.
  • Provide appropriate training, specialist advice, support and guidance to teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system.
  • Attend management and operational meetings
  • Deputise for the site manager and support where required the managers standby rota
  • May be required to take part in shift patterns and standby rotas
Nature and Scope:Working in Maintenance Delivery, the job holder undertakes activities within the full range NGNs operations. They may work as a Team Leader or by themselves carrying out operational or support activity.The job holders may co-ordinate the work of teams or individuals and provide additional expertise in areas of complexity or specialisation supporting the Site Manager community.Each BOL Area within Customer Operations and Programme Management is responsible for safe and efficient delivery of the respective work baskets. These activities are fundamental to the transportation of gas within and through the Network geographical boundaries.Network Maintenance - in transmission and distribution plant, the job holder will participate in the provision and co-ordination of the maintenance and modification of all plant and equipment associated with the transportation of gas.Duties can include the installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance, fault analysis, modification, validation, repair, pressures and complexities.You will be expected oversee multiple minor civil projects at any one time, liaising with Contractors to organise suitable times to carry work out and be expected to carry out completion audits when the work is complete. The role will involve collation ofdaily site records for safety and commercial purposes.As necessary and only if competent, the job holder will be responsible for operating and using mobile plant, tools and equipment properly and safely, ensuring they are correctly maintained and stored. He/she will also operate in accordance with Codes ofPractice, Statutory Regulations and Company Policy. A working knowledge of regulations associated with the disposal of waste will be required. Experience and detailed knowledge is required to enable co-ordination of the work of a number of teams and also toprovide specialist expertise or advice in particular/complex situations.Desired Knowledge, Experience and Technical Competence:
  • Possession of a clean current Driving Licence - mandatory
  • Possess or working towards a IOSH, ILM or National Certificate, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience within a managerial position
  • SCO 1,2, 4 and 5 at CP level and working towards AE status
  • Develop and maintain a positive safety and environment within NGN
  • Assists in the planning, co-ordination, team management, compliance, and delivery of the project.
  • Reviews RAMS & Participates in regular site safety tours and carries out audits / inspections
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders - mandatory
  • Ability to work with computer databases
  • Gas Safety Registration (desirable)
  • Knowledge of managing budgets, forecasts and controlling project costsdesirable
