Job Description

WHAT COMPANY YOU WILL BE WORKING FORWestray Recruitment Group is looking to recruit an experienced Fabrication & Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to work across 12 permanent site locations. The role will incur a high dependency of travel, covering the whole of the UK, working away from home on a frequent basis, or from a local site workshop. The role centres on you having strong welding & fabrication skills, focusing on structural fabrications with a dependency to be able to successfully crossover with other mechanical and multi-functional trades.We are representing a leading manufacturer and distributor of fertilisers to the agricultural sector throughout Great Britain. In addition to ‘standard’ fertilisers, the company is committed to developing innovative and technologically enhanced crop nutrition products and services with the objectives of improving crop yields, crop quality and farmer returns.To be considered for this role, you must have excellent fabrication skills and be experienced working at site-based locations, providing fixed plant assembly, installation and maintenance work. This role is heavily project based and applicants are expected to be adaptable and flexible to determine fabrication and mechanical solutions to problems.This role is a key projects and engineering position utilising skills and competencies on site projects/refurbishments, structural and general fabrication and engineering activities. Working within the Operations Management structure providing ‘hands on’ support nationally, covering 12 company locations. Predominantly working on projects and improvements, you will report to, work alongside and take lead from the Projects & Engineering Manager. Applicants are expected to be responsible for the installation, refurbishment and maintenance of plant-based settings.WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN YOUR ROLE

  • Support the Projects & Engineering Manager and Supervisor during site projects and provision of progress updates.
  • The ability to fabricate and assemble structures and frameworks to create plant equipment, fabricating associated guards and associated ancillaries. Must be proficient with a wide variety of fabrication techniques and able to perform hand cutting, using oxy-propane and/or plasma cutting equipment.
  • To understand, work and comply to company and legislative standards to standards relating to plant construction/fabrication, engineering and general repairs and maintenance
  • Examples of maintenance tasks will include, but not limited to, general repairs, installing new parts, maintaining bearings, motors, gear boxes, hydraulics and pneumatics and calibration of equipment.
  • Competent in various types of welding techniques such as MIG and MMA. Predominantly using mild steel, stainless steel and dissimilar types.
  • Ability to fabricate and build fixed plant component parts from drawings; e.g. conveyors, platforms including handrails, floorplates, stairways, ladders etc, superstructure framework to mount equipment and machinery and other ancillary items.
  • Carry out all necessary cutting, grinding, dressing and drilling to enable the building of structures and the installation of plant equipment.
  • Carry out equipment modifications (specified & developed).
  • Prioritise workload within agreed schedules maintaining projects on-time.
  • Carry out diagnosis and repair of fixed machinery faults.
  • To contribute toward increasing employee competency regarding plant preventative maintenance.
  • WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
  • Nationally recognised welding/fabrication/engineering qualification to City & Guilds/BTEC level or similar.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Prior experience of bulk handling equipment advantageous, (hoppers, conveyers & elevators, weighing equipment).
  • 5 Years + experience working in a welding and fabrication discipline with ideally an engineering skill.
  • Good understanding of the requirements of Health & Safety.
  • Self-motivated and driven toward achieving targets and objectives, possessing good organisational skills and a flexible approach to working times and patterns.
  • Acceptance of travel during weekdays, on occasions at short notice.
  • Willing and able to work at height and potentially in confined spaces.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently either independently or as part of an integrated team.
  • Must be a natural problem solver, who can work with limited supervision, displaying adaptability with a forward and innovative mind and a flexible “can do” attitude.
  • Desirable (but not essential – training can be given)
  • Fork lift licence.
  • Telehandler licence.
  • Lifting & slinging.
  • Banksman.
  • MEWP licence.
  • Harness experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of basic electrics.
  • WHAT ARE THE FINER DETAILS OF YOUR ROLEThis is a permanent role from day one. The position centres on a high degree of travel. Candidates must be prepared to work away from home during the week at various site locations, covering the whole of the UK.Willing to work away from home most weeks, to support major and mini projects, or site R&M requirements. Usually a Monday a.m. to Thu p.m. pattern, working locally Friday but ultimately determined by timeframes and deadlines.Acceptance of travel during weekdays, on occasions at short notice.WHAT SALARY PACKAGE YOU WILL BE RECEIVINGDepending on experience, this role pays between £30,000 - £35,000 per annum.
