Client DetailsA fast growing organisation in the Not for Profit sector looking to grow a teamDescriptionAs the External Communications Manager will lead the development and delivery of external communications for the business.You will play a key strategic role in helping to shape, deliver and communicate thought leadership content to support the strategic positioning of the brand and raise its profile.You will lead and initiate public affairs events as well as activities and campaigns. You will also lead of media relations, PR as well as source, write and edit content for various channels both internal and external of the organisation.Key Responsibilities
  • Leading on external communications to create, deliver and evaluate plans, projects, campaigns, and events
  • Play a key role in helping to shape, deliver and communicate thought leadership work, including through the production of white paper-style editorial/policy content
  • Lead all proactive and reactive media relations and PR activity, including establishing and over[1]seeing a press office function while working collaboratively with colleagues overseeing digital channels
  • Represent the Marketing and Communications Team, building effective relationships across the business and with external suppliers and partners
  • Measure and evaluate the performance of marketing and communications activities, and support the generation of research, insight, and intelligence
  • Support wider marketing and internal communications activities and campaigns, as required.
ProfileAs an External Affairs Manager you will have a proven track record in delivering a broad range of communications.
  • You must have demonstrable experience in public affairs and working with external stakeholders; comfortable and experienced in building relationships with MPs and MSPs, and with a sound grasp of the workings of Westminster and Holyrood
  • A minimum of least 3 - 5 years experience working in a busy press office/senior media role or equivalent, with demonstrable evidence of managing/advising on reputational/crisis issues
  • Excellent copy-writing skills and experience of editing content and be able to develop and lead PR/comms campaigns, events, and activations
  • Knowledge and experience of using digital campaigns and managing multiple online platforms.
  • Experience of managing and motivating people as you will support a small team
  • Experience of working with senior leadership and ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • ideally you will be a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations/ Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Level 3 or above or Qualified/experienced senior journalist (e.g. NCTJ National Qualification in Journal Proficiency Test)
