Job Description

Assistant Principal - Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction & Building ServicesLocation: TeessideSalary: Market Leading as well as a leading benefits package that is designed to retain and attract the best talent in our region.Key Strategic Objectives:

  • To provide strategic and academic leadership within the Faculty, ensuring consistently excellent results and high quality Teaching, Learning & Assessment.
  • To ensure compliance with the Colleges curriculum planning process and to deliver a dynamic and responsive curriculum which develops students skills, knowledge and behaviours and meets the needs of all stakeholders.
  • To achieve income and expenditure targets for the Faculty - meeting student and apprentice recruitment and achievement targets, progress, student progression, positive destinations.
  • To strategically lead the Faculty in matters relating to quality assurance, marketing, student support, satisfaction / student voice and progressions.
  • To continue to develop the Facultys curriculum portfolio, including Higher Education.
  • To be actively involved in the development and attainment of objectives contained within the Colleges Strategic Plan, in particular the ambition to become an outstanding provider of education and training.
Specifically the post holders responsibilities will be as follows:
  • To provide strategic academic leadership and management for all staff in the Faculty.
  • To develop new curricula and employment related opportunities which meet the needs of students and employers.
  • To ensure high quality Teaching, Learning & Assessment and robust management of underperformance.
  • To ensure the Faculty is focussed on inclusiveness and ensuring students achieve the highest possible grades and outcomes.
  • To manage and take part in Department Reviews, including the observation of Teaching & Learning across the College.
  • To ensure full implementation of 16 - 19 Study Programmes including achievement of English and Maths and Work Placement opportunities.
  • To participate in strategic and operational planning and delivery as a member of the College Management Team.
  • To maintain, review, develop and expand the curricula on offer.
  • To own and effectively manage the Faculty budget.
  • To develop the Faculty curriculum portfolio, including Higher Education.
  • To liaise with the Marketing Department to promote and raise the profile of the Faculty provision.
  • To lead and champion Quality Assurance across the Faculty.
  • To lead on Ofsted inspections for your area including any cross college strategic roles as should be allocated to you from time to time.
  • To ensure excellent student progression and positive destinations.
  • To prepare and monitor the Facultys Self-Assessment Report (SAR) achieving at least GOOD assessments and clearly identifying priorities for improvement and development.
  • To lead on strategic collaborations such as the Institute of Technology and Teesworks Skills Academy
  • To achieve the Facultys Key Performance Measures (KPMs).
  • To ensure all students in the curriculum area are able to develop their English and Maths skills.
  • To ensure all students are supported effectively to achieve their goals, providing appropriate Additional Learning Support where required.
  • To assist with the appointment of staff and arrange cover for absent staff.
  • To monitor the interviews of prospective students and induction arrangements, including pre-course counselling and diagnosis, as agreed, with the Assistant Principal - Students.
  • To ensure that the Colleges Performance Review System is applied to all staff and that underperformance is identified and managed.
  • To cover classes as a temporary measure where required.
  • To prepare and present reports for the Standards Committee (sub Committee of the Governing Body) as and when required.
  • To deputise for the Deputy Principal as appropriate.
  • To actively show a commitment to the Faculty and organisations strategic objectives.
Requirements: Qualifications
  • Degree in an appropriate subject or relevant vocational qualification.
  • Qualified teacher / experience of quality assuring teaching and learning.
  • Grade C or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • A commitment to undertake any mandatory training.
  • Management qualification - Desirable
Knowledge & Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum / FE policy and impact.
  • Strong motivational leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a team player able who is able to problem solve effectively.
  • An understanding of the key developments in Teaching, Learning & Assessment technologies, and strategies.
  • Commitment to prioritising the needs of students.
  • Knowledge of current issues facing the FE sector and the industries delivered within the faculty.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and using LMI to inform decision making.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and valuing diversity.
  • Commitment to excellence.
  • To commit to Safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults within the College.
Experience
  • Preparing for and leading external inspections.
  • Successful experience of creating a vision and leading a curriculum team.
  • Experience of leading and motivating staff through periods of change.
  • Successful and recent management experience of curriculum planning and delivering financial and quality outcomes linked to the curriculum plan.
  • Successful experience of ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance Processes. qualification accreditation arrangements.
  • Proven track record of innovation.
  • Successful experience of financial management - Desirable
  • Experience of commercial and ideally international delivery
