Job Description

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for the management of two North East hospitals, James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough,and Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.Title: Admin/clerical assistantBand: 2- £9.49/hourLocation: The James Cook University HospitalStart date: As soon as possibleWork Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pmThe Role:Pathology LIMS- desirable Excel would be an advantageTo support the outsourcing of histological cases to a commercial company for reporting and downloading the reports when available into the pathology computer system. This involves packaging slides for collection by courier and creating a spreadsheetof the cases sent. Accessing the commercial companies website and cutting and pasting the report from there into the pathology computer system (ILAB).Supporting the Secretarial team with admin for Pathologist diagnostic reporting on cases, including 2 week rule cancer cases, ensuring cases are referred for further work as required, which must be actioned to meet reporting turnaround times. Receive and make telephone calls to/from patients, relatives, GPs, wards and other NHS and non-NHS professionals/agencies, follow through all enquiries in a friendly and professional manner.

  • The post holder will work as part of a dedicated, multi-skilled and flexible team of staff in order to provide an efficient, high quality service to the department.
  • The post holder will be responsible for performing clerical and administration tasks associated with sending away cases for further testing and inputting the results onto the laboratory computer system following laboratory standard operating procedures(SOPs).
  • Audio transcription and copy typing of diagnostic surgical histology and cytology reports into the laboratory computer system ILAB.
  • The post holder will be expected to deal with direct queries from Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • The post holder will follow an in-house competency training programme.
  • The post holder must demonstrate a commitment to abide by the Departmental, Trust and NHS values and Constitution.
