Job Description

Research ScientistLocation: Kibworth (LE8), near Market Harborough, LeicestershireSalary: £3200 per monthContract: 4 month contractHours: 0830 to 1700 hrs, Monday to Friday.Our client provides thermal management products and solutions serving the electronics, automotive, medical and industrial sectors.The company, through its products, technical team and research activities has built credible strength in the area of thermal solutions. With new products being launched, new brands being established and a growing in-house manufacturing capability there isan opportunity for significant growth globally.The company has a role for a research scientist part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme Aerospace UP. The project MIUS-TEC will focus on improving the performance for on-shoring production of materials. The role willsupport the project lead and key knowledge holder in accelerating the development. The role involves developing the process for transferring new inorganic thermoelectric materials into devices. This will include characterisation of materials using availablescientific instruments along with material preparation for device assembly and analysis of third party coatings. This will be an important step in transferring the process knowledge into production.Job DescriptionRole

  • A Research Scientist is needed to support the tuning of the thermoelectric material required for scaling on-shore the thermoelectric cooler devices. The project is led by the key knowledge holder for this core technology. Part of the role will require collaborationwith a small multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation and characterisation of thermoelectric materials
  • Analysing coatings
  • Coordinating 3rd party contractors
  • Creating and delivering high quality summaries
  • Planning and prioritising research plans
  • Device level characterisation
Person SpecificationRequired Skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, inter-personal skills together with the capacity to work effectively staff and partners at all levels.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong multi-disciplinary research background with innovative problem solving ability, able to learn new skills and take on challenges from materials to devices
  • Familiarity with XRD/XRF/SEM-EDX techniques is desirable but not essential
  • Good co-ordination, organisational and time management skills
  • Good reporting writing skills together with presentation of scientific and technical information through deliverables, progress reports or for wider dissemination
Qualifications
  • Ideally at MSc level with a degree in chemistry/physics or materials background and with strong practical skills or equivalent industrial based research experience.
