Job Description

With no plans of slowing down, this role presents a successful applicant with a fantastic opportunity to play an integral role within a tech organisation that is at the forefront of the digital revolution.Immediate responsibilities include:

  • Gaining a comprehensive view of the business, roadmap of your systems and the various stakeholders you will interact with
  • Ensuring software delivery aligns with coding standards and business requirements
  • Maintain a malleable approach to work where you can adjust strategies to overcome challenges
  • Solve technical uncertainties through software solutions
  • Manage technical debt
  • Continually strive to improve practices where possible - bringing in your previous experience within similar roles
  • When necessary, guide junior members of the team
  • Remain aware of coding and help when needed
  • Offer support and guidance to others
  • Participate in daily scrums, progress and technical meetings
  • Continually ensure your team and the wider company are making good technology decisions that strengthen the brand
  • Communicate quality and progress of work to relevant stakeholders
What skills do you need to succeed in this position
  • Firm understanding of Object Oriented (OO) principles with exemplary skills in Java and the JVM
  • Full grasp of the iterative software development lifecycle: Lean, Agile, Kanban
  • Skilled in agile practices (XP & Scrum; Pair Programming)
  • Background defining software architectures and/or solution designs
  • Solid understanding of DevOps practices with past experiences automating build and deployment pipelines to support CI/CD
  • Demonstrable past in Test Driven Development using unit test tools (JUnit, Mockito etc.)
  • Experience of building RESTful services/systems (JSON, XML) and integrating with services/systems
  • Confident in Code Refactoring
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical debt and the risks it poses when not dealt with
  • Skilled in the following tech: - XML, JAXP, JAXB, JAX-WS, AXIS, JERSEY, AJAX, JSON, and SOAP (Desirable but not required)
  • Experience with Spring Frameworks and Kubernetes (Desirable but not required)
