Manchester City CouncilHighways Service are recruiting for the permanent position of a Highway Structures Lead.Salary: Grade 11, up to £59,776including 10% market rate supplementreviewed at 18 months and then at 12-month periods and is non-contractualHours: 35 hours per week Monday to FridayBased: Town Hall Extension, Manchester, M60 2LA. Hybrid working.The RoleThe Highways Service in Manchester has a key role to play inthe evolution of our city, making sureour structural assets are maintained and are high-quality,safe, and sustainable. The Council’s stock of highway bridges (900nr) are maintained to a standardof inspection that meets or exceeds the risk-based interval requirements for the Inspection of Highway Structures.If successful you will lead,manage and coordinate the Bridges and Highway Structures service -effectively deploying resources to deliver, continuously improve and develop the service. As the MCC lead officer responsible for the service you will ensurecontinued delivery and management of the ongoing 4-year contract to undertake benchmark principal and general inspections currently being undertaken by consultants.Youwill be responsible for the management and maintenance for 430 bridges and highway structures within Manchester includingbridges, culverts, subways, tunnels, retaining walls and sign gantries. Other maintained iconic (non-highway) structures includethe Chinese Arch in the City Centre (‘Chinatown’) and the Central Park Canopy (Metrolink) in Harpurhey.About youYou’llbe able toshow that you havethe knowledge and experience of undertaking a similar position within the industry, with particular emphasis on the scrutiny of structural maintenance, designs, inspection of assets and managing annual maintenance programmesof work across the full spectrum of the construction industry.You will be able to contribute to our service delivery and manage your own workload without day-to-day supervision, across all types of projects, from small to complex commercial schemes whilstmanaging the Team and the supply chain partners.Ideally you will be a qualified structural engineer with membership of (MICE., MIStructE).
