Job Description

Salary: Circa £35,000Job Type: Full Time, PermanentLocation: Head OfficeBenefits: Competitive pension, 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service, cycle to work scheme, season ticket loans for public transport plus much more.Reporting to the Technical Applications Manager, the SQL Developer will work with the business and the wider Technology Services teams to support the integration of systems and solutions and the ability to develop good quality outcomes for the benefits of thebusiness.CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To ensure the responsibilities of the post are carried out in a way that reflects the standards, vision and values of Great Places;
  • To deliver value for money and manage resources effectively and efficiently, ensuring that targets (financial and non-financial) are met;
  • To promote Great Places to employers, sector bodies, and the local community, developing effective partnerships with employers, the funding agencies and other representative bodies;
  • To observe all policies / procedures / working practices / regulations and in particular to comply with Great Places Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety Policy and Safeguarding Policy
  • To undertake appropriate training and staff development.
  • To identify and develop individual contribution in the delivery of the Great Places competency framework
PURPOSE OF ROLE:To be an expert in a range of ICT technologies enabling the implementation, support and integration of systems and the ability to produce good quality outputs using a range of tools for Great PlacesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be the expert in a wide range of allocated core ICT systems and technologies to ensure that they meet requirements and are fit for purpose
  • Development and administration of application databases.
  • Development and implementation of application integration tools and processes.
  • Liaise with areas of the business and other Technology Services teams to define requirements and effectively translating information into the best technical solution
  • Provide day-to-day support of all core applications that are critical to the smooth running of the business. Ensuring that the systems are monitored, maintained and documented to ensure maximum availability and efficiency and minimal disruption
  • Liaise with 3rd party developers to develop solutions and resolve issues.
  • Work to continually improve areas of responsibility
  • Develop and implement web based business applications
  • Review emerging technologies for potential use
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably required
QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:
  • Experience of supporting and integrating applications
  • Experience of working with SQL Server - development and administration
  • Working knowledge of large and complex datasets
  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Dealing with 3rd party suppliers
  • Experience of delivering projects
  • Experience of web based business applications
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:Essential
  • Strong T-SQL writing skills - querying, dynamic SQL, triggers and stored procedures
  • Expert in SQL Server Management Studio environment and tools
  • Database administration - indexes, backup procedures, security, and performance tuning.
  • Solid understanding of Relational Database design and development
  • Strong understanding of Visual Studio, BIDS and other IDEs.
  • SQL Server Integration Services, ETL and Reporting Services
  • Experience of end-to-end testing
  • Knowledge of modern ICT business systems (including web based applications)
  • Ability to learn new programming languages and tools
Desirable
  • Project management
  • Programming languages - Javascript, C#, VBA, VB.NET, XML
  • Understanding of implementing SQL Server Analysis Services and Data Warehousing
  • Knowledge of IIS
  • Understanding of Software Delivery frameworks

  • Knowledge of Windows Server environment and tools
  • Understanding of MySQL, Oracle, PostgresSQL, Progress database environments, data types and tools.
