Job Description

2810 - SponsorYour new roleNational Highways have an excellent new opportunity for a Sponsor to join our Major Projects Directorate in the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) division, within the North-West region. This role can be based at our Manchester or Leeds offices though canbe flexible to allow for working from home as circumstances dictate.In your new role, you will Initiate and oversee the delivery of large-scale projects, support the Regional Sponsor in achieving the outcomes of large-scale regional and national investment; ensure alignment with National Highways strategic priorities; identifyand manage Benefits and Business cases for individual schemes; ensure appropriate governance and coordination are in place; and provide leadership, internal challenge, and support to the project delivery function.What you will be leading on for your projects:Governance - Being accountable for key decision-making throughout the project lifecycle to ensure that desired outcomes are delivered. Chairing the Project Committee and Stage Gate Reviews and instigating Independent Assurance Reviews for each project tomake sure it is delivered in accordance with the governance requirements of National Highways. This is to ensure decisions are made at the appropriate level and in a timely way, and that appropriate progress has been achieved to allow movement to the nextstage of the project lifecycle.Alignment - Development of Project Briefs and business cases, ensuring solutions are developed and delivered to meet the objectives and outcomes of the Roads Investment Strategy.Investment - Securing the necessary investment for each project business case, through writing comprehensive and accurate Investment Decision Submissions, briefing papers, and slide packs, to ensure senior and Executive level decision makers are well informedat key moments. Ensuring that those investment proposals fit with the longer-term asset strategy and there is adequate funding for your projects throughout all stages of the lifecycle.Stakeholders - Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside of National Highways, building trust, gaining commitment, and clarifying and resolving issues and concerns.Customer - Championing the customer throughout the development and delivery of projects.Leadership - Understanding the core business drivers, environment, and organisation, and managing aspects of uncertainty to maintain clarity with and for project delivery teams, reconciling different stakeholder requirements.Benefits and Value Management Review - Initiating ad hoc reviews to support decision-making.Change control - Instigation to manage formal changes around cost/schedule and commitments.To be successful you will need:Experience in major infrastructure projects with a good knowledge of project lifecycles, desirably in the transport sector.A good understanding of business cases and managing benefits to leave a positive project legacy.To show leadership and demonstrate integrity and a constructive attitude to ensure the right project is delivered, driving best practices with an eye to the future.Experience in successful stakeholder engagement (internal and external) and building collaborative relationships.Ability to think clearly and communicate accurately in framing asks, risks, and issues.Awareness of commercial drivers in the delivery of major infrastructure projects.A bit about usRegional Investment Programme (RIP)RIP is responsible for the development and delivery of junction improvements, bypasses, projects of National significance, and major infrastructure projects.
