Job Description

Health and well being is a top priority for us because we understand the importance of creating a respectful, supportive and transparent environment for all our employees.The Role:Reporting to the Principal Scientific Adviser, the Senior Scientific Adviser for NICE International will be responsible for supporting the planning, design and delivery of NICE international activities. You will work closely with colleagues and academic experts to provide technical input on a portfolio of fee-for-service international advisory and educational projects, and support the Principle Scientific Adviser in developing the range of educational and consultancy service offerings, delivering these projects and liaising with representatives from international governments, HTA agencies and guideline development groups, key opinion leaders, global health organisations, academics, patient organisations and manufacturers of health care products. You will also be required to promote and develop the service at external meetings, educational seminars and conferences.In addition, you will also support the work of NICE Scientific Advice on an ad-hoc basis, and be involved in critically reviewing materials submitted by clients (pharmaceutical, diagnostic or medical technology companies) detailing their clinical trial programmes, evidence generation proposals and any plans for an economic evaluation.To be considered for this role, we are looking for:

  • Providing support in project design and delivery of NICE international portfolio of projects including educational and consultancy activities
  • Providing advice and support to international organisations that are developing systems to improve health and social care evidence-based decision making by sharing NICE’s learning and expertise with other organisations worldwide and learning from others.
  • Preparing briefings on international projects, conducting literature reviews, searches and contacting experts if needed.
  • Participating in discussions with national and international stakeholders, face-to-face and by web and tele-conference
  • The Senior Scientific Adviser for NICE International will also have the opportunity to work with the NICE Scientific Advice team providing advice to the life sciences industry on the requirements to capture clinical and other research information relevant to HTA from national and international clinical trial programmesThe post holder should be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Advanced level university degree (doctorate or masters preferrable) in economics or related science discipline. The qualifications and/or experience should be in subject or subjects related to HTA/evidence-based medicine (health economics, medical statistics, clinical trials, public health and health policy, epidemiology, systematic reviewing). Further specialist training or equivalent level of knowledge and experience in global health policy development is desirable.
  • Expertise in guideline development, health technology assessment and/or public health research and assessment methodology
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and the interpretation and synthesis of health care and public health research evidence
  • Working knowledge and experience of the following areas and specialist expertise in at least two of the following:
  • Clinical trials
  • Health economics
  • Medical statistics
  • Cost effectiveness modelling
  • Systematic reviewing
  • Evidence synthesis
  • Transferability
  • Global health policy
  • Excellent diplomatic, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate highly complex ideas to a range of audiences (international organisations, regulatory authorities and key opinion leaders etc.), where there may be significant barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome or reactions may be hostile
