Laboratory Solutions are recruiting for a well funded biotech that are creating an environmentally friendly end product and are currently in the process of building their pilot plant in Manchester.Do you like all things fermentation/pilot plant, then please read on!Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the practical scale up of my clients breakthrough integrated production and gravity separation technology process to commercial scale, as well as setting up a pilot facility in the laboratory whilst the commercial facility is being designed and built. This role will involve both hands on work in the lab, pilot and commercial facilities and desk based engineering work. The appointee will work closely with the fermentation team, ensuring laboratory experiments translate well to industrial settings, as well as our design team, to ensure that all the required infrastructure is in place to facilitate smooth upscaling of the technology.Once the plant is complete, the candidate will lead the technology transfer to our operations team. On completion of our first commercial plant, my client intends to replicate this model for a number of biosurfactants and other lipid fermentation products, and the candidate will play a key role in ongoing scale up and process development for these additional molecules.Candidate requirements We are seeking highly motivated innovators who want to challenge themselves and others and fit well with our company philosophy, and first and foremost, get things done! The ideal individual should have: Essential: • Enthusiasm and ability to think creatively and develop new technology. • Expertise and experience in scale up of fermentation processes, and experience running a range of bioreactors from benchtop to industrial scale. • Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of calculations useful in the design, operation and scale up of fermentations and downstream processes, with the ability to be creative in finding new solutions to characterise processes. • Excellent trouble shooting skills in the context of fermentation and downstream processing. Desirable: • Knowledge and experience of implementing process control systems. • Experience and ability to coordinate a scale up project with a range of industrial and academic partners. • Specific knowledge of biosurfactants, in particular glycolipid biosurfactants. • Understanding of lipid quantification and purification techniques. • Understanding of phase separation/surfactant behaviour. • PhD or similar development experience in process development for bioproducts. • Willingness to travel internationally for collaborative projects for up to 6 weeks at a time.If you would like to be part of a small, but expanding team, where your input really counts, then please get in touch!
