Job Description

Our Manchester based client is currently looking for multiple Research Software Engineer (GIS) to join their project team and supporthe technical development of the £8m NERC funded Digital Solutions Programme.The focus of the Digital Solutions Programme is to build a UK wide decision support system at the cutting edge of theory and practice, which will contribute to improvements in the overall quality of environmental decision making in public, private and thirdsector settings throughout the UK. Developing productive partnerships with policymakers and practitioners in a range of sectorsMain Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Engage in the development of high-quality software as a Full Stack software engineer with the additional expertise of Geospatial Software Engineering
  • Designing, modifying, and implementing software systems to meet specific research requirement
  • Problem solving for users, documentation creation, community building, software installation and configuration, maintaining licencing compliance
  • Independently working on moderately complex systems and collaborating with colleagues on larger and more complex systems. This involves defining user/system interfaces, designing, coding, testing, and debugging software applications using multiple programminglanguages such as Python and C#, whilst ensuring efficiency, performance, and maintainability
  • Develops and implements unit, integration, and system testing to ensure software quality, reliability, and security.
Essential skills and experience:
  • Proficient in developing geospatial web applications using tools such as ArcGIS JavaScript API, ArcGIS Runtime.
  • Experienced in object-oriented development with expertise in one or more languages such as C# (.NET, .NET Core), JavaScript, and Python.
  • Experience in constructing robust web solutions using modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Thorough understanding and application of software patterns including MVVM, MVC
  • Familiarity with relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL), and/or SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and cloud based relational databases
  • Good knowledge and understanding of data or previous experience of working on data related projects
