Job Description

Project ChemistPermanent roleCompetitive salary + packageManchesterWe are working with a global pharmaceutical CRO/CMO in Manchester who require a Project Chemist to work with clients in initiating custom synthesis projects, design experiments / processes, delegate activities and maintain regular contact with the client. This role will see you developing synthetic procedures and designing processes for the production of pharmaceutical intermediates on a kg-ton scale in line with client needs, with whom you will be interacting. This role is office and laboratory based andrequires a good understanding of practical synthetic organic chemistry and an enthusiasm for lab work, alongside business experience and ideally business-to-business communication. What youll doYou will be working on projects for clients involving new chemical processes. This will involve designing and optimising reaction conditions, and work-up procedures in pre-defined synthetic routes to improve product purity & yield, process robustness, processunderstanding and process safety.A variety of organic reactions are involved in this, for example protections/deprotections, reductions/oxidations, alkylations, nucleophilic additions, hydrogenations, cyclisations, metal catalysed couplings, crystallisations and many more. You will work closely with Development Chemists mainly, to design experiments with clear aims, ultimately creating elegant and efficient processes to support manufacturing at kg-ton scale. Development reactions typically use 1-1000 g of starting materialand are executed with a strong attention to detail, obtaining as much information as possible from each experiment which will be fed to you for assessment and where needed communication to the client. While this role will see you also taking part in bench based activities as above, there will be delegation to others. Their input, observations and suggestions will be vital to the progression of process design. These projects are a team effort, with youroversight and coordination keeping the project moving in the best direction. while keeping the clients informed. You will interact with Production, Analytical and QC personnel regularly, as well as other Project Leaders. You will be authorised to give instructions to Lab Chemists and Apprentices within the PR&D Laboratory, as well as providing advice to ProductionOperators.Your backgroundYou will have graduated with a Masters or PhD in Chemistry and carried out research in a synthesis-based group for several years. You will have previously experienced the ups-and-downs of synthesis chemistry and bring experience of working with clients inthis field. You will have a broader record of accomplishment in practical organic chemistry in either industry or academia and, most importantly, an enthusiasm for process development and scale-up. We are seeking someone who can communicate well, plan their time aswell as others, and work in an ordered way to achieve goals. We look forward to receiving your application! On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an employment agency.
