Job Description

The client is a growing online beauty retailer based in Manchester who have made their name sourcing niche, first to market beauty products. 100% driven by their customers, what they desire + how they want to shop. Described as the go to destination for the beauty obsessed, boasting 7,000 products onsite + new launches every week.Currently looking for new talent with proven (within industry) experience as a Lead BI Developer, Data Engineer or Data Scientist (highly desirable), to lead an ambitious modernisation project, whereby the client will transition their mostly Microsoft SQL based BI stack into several cloud native technologies in AWS. This role will be pivotal in delivering this transition.The Lead Data Engineer role will be responsible for:

  • Develop and own the vision of the function
  • Ownership and development of the data platform
  • Helping the business understand the value of data, the opportunity it brings and how it can positively impact the business
  • Plan, design, communicate and execute BI and Data projects
  • Own the design and assist with the implementation any ELT processes needed
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical audiences on projects
  • Support project delivery with estimates and progress tracking
  • Planning and coordinating with other teams across the business
  • Essential
  • Excellent background in SQL Server SQL Analysis Services, SQL Reporting Services
  • Solid knowledge of data modelling and structures, and experience with data warehousing tools and techniques (BigQuery, Spanner, Snowflake, Redshift etc.)
  • Strong software development skills (particularly in Python) - object oriented and/or functional design, coding, and testing patterns, the relevant DevOps principles, and the ability to document in a clean manner
  • Thorough understanding of relevant cloud technologies preferably with the AWS stack (AWS Glue, S3, Redshift, Athena, Quicksight)
  • Familiarity with machine learning technologies and techniques would be beneficial
  • Have an understanding and apply software standards and practices
  • Use of CI/CD, deployment pipelines and build automation would be beneficial
  • Rapidly adapt to new technologies and technical challenges
