Job Description

Manchester Academy has a forward thinking leadership team and a culture in which graduates thrive.You will work in a team of three IT specialists working to provide IT support and contribute to the effective operation, maintenance and repair of all computers and related resources through the school.This role would suit a recent IT Graduate with great communication skills and the desire to learn and progress.You will benefit from an excellent local authority pension, a work schedule which fits around home commitments, training, and the opportunity to build a career in a growing organisation.Important Details:

  • £20,000-£24,000.
  • 37.5 hours Monday to Friday.
  • 08:00-16:00 with some flexibility on hours if requested.

Duties of the IT Graduate:
  • Provide first line technical support.
  • Monitor the performance and suitability of end-user devices and peripherals, resolving faults, finding temporary workarounds, and escalating within the IT Service where necessary.
  • Monitor and manage network stability and performance (with direction).
  • Implement change requests (with direction).
  • Ensure compliance with backup, anti-virus and other security provisions (with direction).
  • Actively monitor or respond to assigned helpdesk jobs with diligence. Meeting SLAs.
  • Log any helpdesk incidents reported verbally.
  • Search knowledge base/ logs of previous calls to inform diagnosis and resolution.
  • Record detailed diagnostic information to assist with the building of the knowledge base.
  • Where a satisfactory and immediate fix is not possible, escalate within the IT Service.
  • Support, maintain and deploy all IT hardware and software resources used:
  • Contribute to the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date asset registers for software and hardware.
  • Test and prove the efficacy of the backup procedures on a scheduled basis.
  • Actively maintain and monitor the anti-virus/ anti-malware provision and overall security of the IT systems on a daily basis to ensure the integrity of data, systems, and resources.
  • Manage active network components, escalating to second line support where necessary.
  • Monitor Wide Area Network links, escalating to second line support where necessary.
  • Maintain internet filtering systems.
  • Be alert to any emerging technical risks and escalate within the IT Service.
  • Support, assist and train as required staff, students, and visitors.
  • An understanding of the management and troubleshooting of networked systems.
  • A strong skillset in the management of users within a Windows environment.
  • The ability to troubleshoot issues with hardware, identifying faults and resolving/ escalating as required.
Experience and Qualifications of the IT Graduate:
  • A relevant technical qualification, or experience in supporting Windows 10 environments.
  • Strong knowledge of basic ICT packages: Office, Outlook, Windows.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications: Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive.
  • A genuine interest in technology and a strategy for keeping up to date with developments.
  • An understanding of how IT is effectively used in teaching and learning.
  • Experience and demonstrable expertise in:
      • Windows 10 Desktop
      • Basic Network Operations - Print/Password/User Management.
      • Classroom Audio Visual hardware.
      • Diagnosis and technical trouble-shooting skills.

An Advantage but not Essential:
  • Evidence of further professional development and training.
  • MCSE or equivalent technical qualifications.
  • Experience of working within education environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of using FITS or ITIL service desk operations.
