Job Description

Manchester City Council are looking to recruit Private Rented Sector Officers to the PRS Team within the Homelessness Directorate.Contract: Temporary,initially until31/03/2023Office Location:Alexandra House, Moss Lane East,M15 5BAHours: 35 per week, 09:30-17:00 Mon to FriThe posts require strong communicators who feel comfortable with negotiating and dealing with challenging service users, experience within a similar role is not essential.Role PortfolioThe Private Rented Sector Team sits within Manchester Citys Councils Homelessness Services. It works to identify suitable move on accommodation for households who can be prevented from becoming homeless, the relief of Homelessness and the discharge ofHomelessness.Emphasis will be identifying move on solutions for people into private rented accommodation, social housing, supported accommodation or temporary accommodation.The role holder will secure properties, with an emphasis on the private rented sector, for homeless people and other customers, including the provision of temporary accommodation, ensuring it is suitable and affordable for the customers needs.Establish and maintain a rapport with customers and challenge the existing patterns of behaviour which may undermine positive outcomes.Duties:

  • Work in a busy team, managing a varied caseload.
  • Work with a variety of service users, both face to face and over the telephone.
  • Lookfor accommodation for households who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
  • Source accommodation to resolve clients homeless journey within the private rented sector.
  • Meetlandlords / letting agents inside and outside of Manchester to secure accommodation.
  • Inspect properties to ensure they are health & safety compliant and are to a decent standard ahead of lets being arranged full training will be provided in line with Housing, Health & Safety System requirements (HHSRS).
What theyre looking for:
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively is an essential requirement of this role.
  • HHSRS qualification is preferred but not essential.
The post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
