Job Description

Macmillan Davies are delighted to be the retained partner for a rapid growth business operating in the smart energy sector as they commence their search for a Head of Talent (Development and Acquisition) to join the People team based in the North-West ofEngland.The CompanyIt is a very exciting time to join this newly formed Group. Brought about by acquisition of 3 established businesses, there are no plans whatsoever to stand still. Currently employing over 1,600 people across the UK, the organisation prides itself on buildingfor the future by accelerating the development of a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable utilities sector.The business appointed its first Chief People Officer this year. Now, with a robust people strategy in place, the newly created Head of Talent will strengthen the people function to play a pivotal role in creating a culture that is employee centric and canplan and execute against an ambitious programme of projects that will deliver on the business strategy.About the RoleThe Head of Talent will be the first of its kind in the business and is designed to oversee Talent Acquisition, Vocational Training and Learning and Development for the entire organisation.With some teams existing already (T.A and Vocational Training) the Learning and Development team will be created from the ground up.Working with the CPO and forming part of the HR Leadership team the Head of Talents remit will involve the following:

  • Contribute to the formulation of the People Strategy; own the Talent and L&D elements of strategy delivery
  • Accountable for the vocational skills training academy; its successful operation, delivery and effectiveness in providing field roles with the necessary skills development and training
  • With the CPO, peers and business stakeholders, create a vocational skills strategy for implementation and delivery over the next 3 years, aligning success to business objectives and key growth ambitions
  • Own Talent Acquisition: delivery of volume recruitment of technical (field based) roles, support and back-office functions; establish a robust PSL process; manage contingent worker process within the TA team, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Design and implement a talent management and succession process for delivery by People Partners and supported by the L&D offering
  • Establish the company wide L&D approach for non-technical roles at all levels including leadership
  • Design and implementation of early talent approach to include Graduates, Apprenticeships, Internships and Work experience to deliver against our talent requirements of the future and in line with D&I plan and ambitions, utilising the Apprenticeship Levyaccordingly
  • Establish a process for workforce planning and implement within the People Partnering team to enable a forward view on planning for non-technical roles and resource and attraction planning for other roles.
  • Work with the Marketing team to create employer brand and recruiting materials for use across digital channels and enhance candidate awareness of the Group
About YouWere looking to attract that Talent leader who is motivated and excited to apply their already acquired expertise to a brand-new proposition where elements are still being created and some teams are in their infancy. Your commercial acumen will be vast,and you will be able manage ambiguity and set clear direction and strategy. Like any new role in a rapid growth, highly acquisitive business there will be a need for you to establish credibility and influence thoughtfully from day one.Preferred expertise would include:
  • Leading, developing and embedding an integrated talent approach in a medium/large organisation
  • Substantial experience talent management, organisation development, leadership development and vocational skills development
  • Experience of working in an organisation with a large, field-based workforce where volume recruitment is a key feature of the TA team
  • Experience of designing and setting a company-wide TA and L&D approach in line with business objectives and People Strategy
  • Demonstrable HR delivery and strategic experience at a Senior/Head of level
  • Experience of managing HR projects / initiatives / interventions, from conception to implementation, against scope, timescales, cost and quality
  • Experience of delivering business change and improvement
