Job Description

H9 Technical are looking for a Head of solar to join a client involved is several small scale projects. We are looking for someone who can lead its growing team of solar designers and project engineers to deliver a growing portfolio of projects includingSolar, Energy Storage, Combined Heat & Power systems, Electrification of Heat, Electric Vehicle Chargers and more.Role and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Project Director, as Head of Solar you will manage the day-to-day operations of our solar design development and delivery team.
  • A typical working week will include working closely with our sales team to understand client requirements for our I&C solar installations, managing your solar modelers in the preparation of solar designs, working with our procurement team to develop oursupply chain and prepare proposals and coordinating the activities of multiple project engineers and sub-contractors in the delivery of solar installations.
  • Management of the team developing solar proposals using modelling software (PVsol, Solar Edge Designer, etc.)
  • Coordinating the preparation of proposals, including ensuring timely response times and appropriate levels of due diligence.
  • Advising on technology selection
  • Developing our internal processes to improve our ability to scale our activities as our business grows
  • Coordinating (and attending as required) technical site visits.
  • Reviewing cost plans with Projects Director for sign off ready to be provided to the client.
  • Managing the team responsible for detailed design in preparation for construction.
  • Working with our procurement team to improve our access to products and to feed back into cost plan preparation.
  • Managing the team, budgets and programme for solar projects in delivery.
  • Acting as primary point of contact for our clients
  • Leading project review meetings
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in the cradle-to-grave management of the solar design of energy projects in the UK, especially those installed at commercial and industrial sites.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise the workload of a small team, especially when juggling multiple projects at various stages of development.
  • Experience generating proposals, good instinct around how to manage or mitigate risks.
  • Good communication, the client has a diverse team with varied capabilities, building relationships to maximise the efficiency of the team and interdepartmental cooperation will be key to delivering the role.
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Willingness to come up with ideas and identify opportunities to improve our process or solutions.
  • Commercial experience would be of value, especially experience handling contractor claims and change orders.
  • Relevant solar design experience and competency in various software packages (PVsol, Pvsyst, SolarEdge Designer) and the ability to review models generated through this software to check accuracy.
