Job Description

Head of Operations role for a growing SME Manufacturing Company. The role is based in Greater ManchesterClient DetailsOur client is a growing, SME industrial manufacturing company based in Greater Manchester.DescriptionThe Head of Operations is responsible for leading the operational activity for the company, in line with ourambitious strategic goals. Working closely with a forward-thinking management team, the Head of Operationshas responsibility for all elements of operations, including central planning & supply chain management,production, quality, facilities, health & safety, and environmental. This role has full responsibility for monitoringperformance and productivity levels within operations, and is pivotal to defining the companys operationalstrategy, and continuously improving and scaling all areas of operations to deliver efficiency and the companyslong-term growth strategy.

  • In conjunction with the senior leadership team and key stakeholders across the business, conducting a full review of current systems and processes within production and the wider operations team, and developing a strategy which will streamline and innovateoperations, to increase efficiency, maximise performance and site capacity, and allow for scalable growth.
  • Responsibility for the ongoing continuous improvement of operations processes and activities, introducing LEAN and Six Sigma principles and quality tools, and implementing in line with industry best practice and external market changes. In conjunction withthe Finance Director and IT manager, responsibility for use of IT and software within operations, including ERP (SAP B1).
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on operations KPIs to evaluate and achieve efficiency and performance (including real time metrics data collection and updating throughout shifts), and analysing data to inform future strategy and approachesto scale the business.
  • Overall responsibility for the operations budget, including planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Leadership and management of the operations teams (central planning & supply chain management, production, and quality), including:
Developing and implementing an operational team structure to deliver against strategy Managing resource to ensure maximum output and efficiency Performance measurement and management Continuous team and individual learning and development, including training, supporting, and coaching individuals Creating and embedding a customer-centric team culture, which is committed to a quality, continuous improvement, environmentally aware and safety-first mindset In conjunction with the Head of People, developing, implementing, and measuring operational bonus, incentive, and reward & recognition schemes to maximise production, quality, environmental and health & safety performance, and enhance team motivationProfileEssential experience and qualities: Background - operational background within a technical bespoke/batch manufacturing and/or engineeringenvironment, with an international supply chain, including responsibility for facilities management, health &safety and environmental. Work experience - working experience as a Head of Operations/Operations Manager, with experience ofboth strategy development, hands-on operational delivery, and budgetary responsibility. Change management - experience of innovating to improve performance and implementing and embeddingchange. Systems, processes, and infrastructure - experience of successfully optimising and implementing newsystems, processes, software tools and machinery into a business, to streamline processes, increaseefficiency and maximise performance. Stakeholder management and collaboration - ability to communicate effectively with numerous internaland external stakeholders at multiple levels. Leadership and management - proven record of successfully leading and managing operations teams,including coaching, and mentoring of individuals, embedding culture, and developing high performing,motivated and engaged teams. Analytics and data - ability to successfully evaluate operational performance and take an analytical and datadriven approach to operational processes to further scale the business. Customer-centricity - experience of delivering on customer promises through an efficient and optimisedoperations function and embedding a customer-centric team culture.Preferable experience and qualities: Strategic change - experience of planning and executing strategic change that has led to achieving sustained,profitable growth. Effecting change - experience of effecting change to create high performance teams with a continuousimprovement culture.
