Job Description

Are you an articulate, confident individual who enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders Do you have strong experience in managing expenditure, now looking to enter the field of research finance Keen to secure a role that offers unparalleled learningand development opportunities If yes, this could be the role for you!This large, complex educational organisation are currently seeking a Finance Officer (Research) to join their high performing team on a permanent basis. Based in Manchester, this role will be responsible for being the finance subject matter expert for ahigh-profile portfolio of externally funded projects.The key duties of this Finance Officer (Research) are as follows:

  • Full responsibility for monitoring the financial performance of each individual project once the grants have been awarded.
  • Take the lead in the monthly review of spends against budget, investigating and challenging any variances as necessary.
  • Hold critical oversight of all things Compliance for your grants, ensuring all spending is in line with contractual requirements.
  • Produce project forecasts and reforecasts on a quarterly basis.
  • Sole responsibility for submitting expenditure claims.
  • Run regular expenditure reports for all projects within your portfolio and produce reports in line with funder timelines.
This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with strong Excel and data manipulation experience and a background liaising with a variety of stakeholders who is now looking to learn the ropes of all things finance, whilst learning from a lovely and highlyexperienced line manager who prides themselves on staff development. There is exceptional potential for on the job training and development in this role so you will not want to miss this! This role will officially be based out of their offices in Manchester,although opportunities to work from home will be on offer for up to three days per week.The successful candidate will have:
  • Advanced Excel / spreadsheet skills and the ability to manipulate large volumes of data.
  • Ideally a background working in the higher education, charity or NHS sectors, but this is by no means essential.
  • Experience managing project expenditure and working with a variety of both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong logic, a mature outlook and be a self-starter.
