Job Description

We are urgently seeking an experienced and skilled Environmental Health Officer to undertake food safety inspections, re-visits, undertake enforcement action and respond to customer service requests for one of our local government clients based in Manchester.The Environmental Health Officer will be expected to complete inspection reports, establish and allocate food hygiene ratings and prepare schedules of work for food business operators. They will also be expected to investigate complaints relating to poor food hygiene practices and advise business on improvements and update customers.As these are unprecedented and challenging times due to the covid 19 pandemic, we also welcome candidates that may not be food competent but have experience of health and safety at work enforcement to assist on COVID secure compliance or may have skills relevant to a track and trace response.Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Environmental Health Officers must have obtained an Environmental Health Board of Registration Certificate (EHRB) for food safety work but an Environmental Health Degree or alternative qualification and experience will be sufficient for a role relating to health and safety or track and trace
  • Must be familiar with applying a Corporate Enforcement Policy and the Regulators Code, understand enforcement procedures including preparation of prosecution case files, Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) interview processes, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulations and giving evidence in court.
  • Food standards and health and safety experience is desirable.
  • Port health skills related to imported foods are desirable but not essential.
  • This role will require work from a home base and then travel to premises to undertake inspections and investigations, as required. Communication with managers and team members is via regular virtual meetings. telephone and other IT applications. Therefore appropriate IT equipment is required to enable home working such as a laptop or suitable tablet.
