Job Description

Job Title: Engineering Supervisor (Compliance)Job reference: J61697We are currently recruiting for a number an Engineering Supervisor within a leading University in Greater Manchester.These are key role within the University and will be on a temporary to permanent contractThe post holder is expected to plan, programme, allocate and supervise work as required utilising in-house labour and contract labour as appropriate. .Duties will include:

  • The scope of work includes repair, maintenance and improvements to engineering services. This would include PPM (planned preventative maintenance) works, reactive maintenance works (via helpdesk) & small project works.
  • To assist the Unit Area Manager to effectively direct and manage all resources allocated to the Facilities - Maintenance and Compliance (FMC).
  • Supervise an allocated team of technical and manual in house staff and contract labour responsible for a range of maintenance and improvements of buildings services.
  • To deputise for the Unit Area Manager
  • To assist dayon-day for allocating and supervising engineering work ensuring efficient and safe operation to the highest achievable standard.
  • To assist in ensuring that all work is effectively controlled using the systems developed for ensuring the group is productive, cost effective and transparent in all its operations.
  • Responsible for monitoring the progress of all aspects of individual jobs/projects from inception to completion (including the updating of the management systems and the production of management reports).
  • Provide specific advice within the area of technical expertise on a routine basis.
  • Contribute to the design and estimation of small project works, including preparation of specifications.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of performance-monitoring systems so as to provide evidence that the team is providing value for money.
  • Contribute to the development of a customer focused service, promoting the Directorate of Estates and Facilities by establishing and maintaining working relationships throughout the University.
Essential skills / qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in a Building Service/Engineering discipline, and detailed knowledge of Engineering Compliance/Contract Management
  • Appropriate qualifications to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) and Ordinary or Higher National Certificate qualifications (or be willing to work towards achieving the ONC/HNC level) in an electrical, mechanical or construction related discipline and having substantialvocational experience as applicable.
  • An established track record and experience in an engineering or construction related discipline.
  • Experience of supervising groups of multi-disciplinary, technical and manual in house staff and external contracted labour.
  • Experience of producing reports and correspondence, giving clear oral reports and proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in
  1. Mechanical (HVAC) engineering regulations and guidance (i.e. CIBSE, BSRIA, BESA)
OR
  1. Electrical engineering regulations and standards (i.e. EAWR, BS7671:18th Edition, BS5839-1, BS5266-1)
OR
  1. Construction regulations (i.e. Building Regulations and Associated Approved Documents)
  • Must have working knowledge of:-
  1. Health & Safety legislation
  2. Contractual practices and procedures
  3. Man management and related Human Resources issues
  4. Job, project and procurement
  5. Post holders must have a good working knowledge of associated disciplines
  • Must be capable of accessing all parts of the Universitys estate including working at height, in confined spaces etc.
  • Experience working with CAFM (computer aided facilities management) systems at operational level for planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Experience of electronic finance systems for the procurement of plant, external contractors and materials.
