JA1172 - Electrical Designer - Building ServicesLocation - Manchester, M41Salary - £45K - £55K DOE + £330/month car allowanceType - Permanent/full-timeOverview:We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer with strong industrial building services experience. The successful candidate will provide design activities to various Company EE and MSS clean rooms, production & research facilities, and generalbuildings.The electrical designer will work closely with and under the guidance of the lead electrical designer and will be responsible for providing technical and detailed design based upon conceptual documents as well as verbal briefs, load analysis. design developmentand tender documents.The role will interface with the estimating disciplines as well as the other members of the design team, subcontractors, and client representatives. The electrical designer will assist with producing electrical design drawings, calculations, schedules, andproposals for the design department.Aims & Objectives:

• To brief the estimating team on pricing requirements and provide sufficient design information to allow accurate and efficient cost plans to be developed.
• Be able to manage a tender return ensuring all bid documentation is completed correctly and returned on time.
• You could receive initial concept reports and briefs or you could be interpreting a written URS / EIR for the works and develop it into a detailed and coordinated work package.
• There will be governance and employers requirements which will differ between the various markets and customers that you will need to understand and apply in your designs.
• To work with the operations team to assist with programming and reporting, construction queries and technical assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reporting to the Head of Design you will have responsibility for the electrical design aspects on all your assigned enquiries and projects, these can be split into specific stages:

Tender stage design & estimation

1. Preparation of RFIs to ensure clients requirements are clarified and realised.
2. Complying with all latest building regulations, statutory authority legislation, best practices, and environmentally complimentary schemes.
3. Site surveys to determine existing building layouts and services to enable sketches, take offs, estimation, and quantifiable solutions to be produced.
4. Understand the Company Quality Systems, implement and promote.
5. Correctly interpret drawings, specifications, and manufacturers data for design purposes.
6. Assess buildability of the installation and provide proactive solutions where required.
7. Prepare cost plans with sufficient details of how the costs have been derived.
8. To maintain a close working relationship with Commercial, Engineering and Operations teams, ensuring cohesion in any new business venture.
9. Prepare proposal letter technical descriptions with annotations to present the solution.
10. Liaising with clients to capture and interpret the design brief.
11. Prepare energy reports and life cycle costs to accompany your cost plan and proposal.
12. To create electrical designs, calculations and schedules for Construction issue including cable calculations, discrimination studies, Isolux plots. - all within building services.

Post tender project design & co-ordination.

1. Prepare in collaboration with the design team a risk and opportunities register.
2. Report to your line manager on design production progress and deliverables to ensure the design function supports the construction phase and programme.
3. Liaising will all disciplines to ensure works are accurately coordinated without clashes.
4. Inspection of on-site installations and design certificate sign-offs.

Skills & Experience:Essential

• Your electrical services design duties will include but not be limited to the following: -

1. Low Voltage power distribution design for building services.
2. Circuit Protection with correct disconnection times in LV final distribution.
3. Lighting design with reflected ceiling plans, suitable uniformity, and coordination with HVAC
4. Lighting Controls.
5. Cable Calculations.
6. Containment sizing including consideration of de-rating.
7. Structured Cabling with segregation.
8. Fire alarm design with BS5839 signoff.
9. Emergency Lighting design with BS5266 signoff.
10. Drawing markups, sketches, schematics to brief the CAD department.
11. Schedule and BoM production.
12. Costed estimate sheets with full trail of price makeup.

• Engineering qualification to HNC level as a minimum.
• Trained in the 18th Edition design.
• Conversant with a wide range of electrical building service systems and equipment.
• Building Management Systems and associated principles.
• IT literate with a technical understanding of IT packages relevant to the role, mainly Amtech, Relux / Dialux, Trimble Contract Master.
• Extensive Excel experience with ability to follow estimating templates.
• You will be highly organised with a keen eye for detail and take a methodical and planned approach.
• Experience of creating an itemised estimate with an understanding of markup and margin.
• High level of self-motivation, organisational ability and drive to meet deadlines.
