Job Description

The Digital Communications Officer works within the communications team to help them to deliver a high quality and consistent service. They will have great attention to detail and be well equipped to advise and facilitate work across the organisation, using skills in digital engagement and digital media management.The post-holder delivers a wide range of communications activities and projects, including producing content for the HRA’s digital communications activity and presence. They should have good design skills which they can use to ensure that our digital communications and events are professional, engaging and impactful.The Digital Communications Officer is also responsible for reporting on and evaluating their own communications work. Having good writing and editorial skills, they play a key role in producing content for internal and external publications. A team player, they will be used to drafting news stories, organising interviews, editing video as well as sometimes having to deal with urgent requests. They will need to manage their time effectively and be able to organise video shoots and co-ordinate digital activities at events both virtual and face-to-face.This role also involves responding to and reporting on enquiries from the public and professional stakeholders and supporting the rest of the communications team to provide consistent and reliable communications cover for the HRA.The HRA has a number of functions. We:

  • are the appointing authority for RECs in England and provide the Research Ethics Service;
  • by agreement with the Devolved Administrations, we support a UK-wide system for ethical review in the UK;
  • work in partnership to coordinate our activity with other organisations regulating and governing research, including the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Human Tissue Authority (HTA), Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC);
  • provide advice and support through our advice service, published guidance, information and training programmes;
  • provide the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS), through which all applications for regulation and governance of health research are made in the UK;
