Job Description

As the largest provider of academic qualifications in the UK, we mark over seven million GCSEs and A-levels each year and it’s our people who make this happen.Desktop TechnicianManchesterPermanent£28,422 - £33,105 + additional benefitsWe are looking for an experienced Desktop Technician to support the Desktop Team in the provision of robust computing services. You will work as an integral member of our Desktop Support team to provide our end users with an excellent service day to dayIn this role you’ll be:

  • Performing service maintenance and systems support tasks, carrying out routine checks in accordance with procedure and liaising with Desktop colleagues as required
  • Providing first and second line support of windows, desktop, mobile and associated applications and end user telephony.
  • Support hardware lifecycle refresh, service and systems maintenance to facilitate effective delivery of service against agreed service levels
  • Complying with and supporting IT standards including Architecture and Security.
  • Liaising closely within and across teams to ensure effective overall service delivery and timely resolution of incidents and requests
  • Engaging with suppliers as required to ensure effective service delivery and problem resolution during support and maintenance activity
  • Updating, maintaining and ensuring accuracy of Configuration items within the Configuration Management Database.
  • Strong understanding of IT Asset Management practices (Software and Hardware).
    • Please note that there is an element of manual handling to transport and set up equipment and associated cabling within this role.You will have:
  • Experience of supporting a desktop computing environment including Microsoft Windows 10/7, Office 2010/2016 suite of applications and similar desktop applications (MS Project, OneNote, Visio, Adobe Creative Suite etc)
  • Good understanding of Cyber Security and Threat mitigation technologies (Anti-Virus, Vulnerability assessment, Exploit Prevention)
  • Desktop and application virtualisation, ideally Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp,
  • Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy,
  • Strong understanding of IT Asset Management practices (Software and Hardware)
  • Knowledge of ITIL v3
  • Microsoft PowerShell Scripting for the management of computer endpoints, Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager (WSUS, Software deployment) and Mobile Device Management (knowledge of MobileIron is desirable) would be desirable
