Job Description

We are now hiring a Database Administrator (DBA) who will be responsible for providing technical support for the database estate including overseeing the development and organisation of the databases, performance tuning, assessment and implementation ofnew technologies and providing a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business. It is extremely important to AJ Bell that key database systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible.The DBA works closely with other teams within Technology Services - and with other teams within AJ Bell - to provide support, maintenance, and updates as a result of Service Desk calls.What does the job involve

  • Ensuring seamless database operations across various environments.
  • Rigorous performance testing and SQL script approval to maintain our high standards.
  • Keeping database availability and performance within top-tier SLAs.
  • Proactively monitoring and optimising server performance.
  • Resolving complex database challenges independently and implementing upgrades.
  • Maintaining rigorous database access control and ensuring robust backup operations.
  • Engaging in strategic capacity and architecture planning.
  • Addressing Service Desk issues with effective data solutions.
  • Advising on appropriate database technologies for future projects.
  • Conducting disaster recovery tests to ensure our resilience.
  • Out of hours support via a DBA team rota.
Competence, knowledge, and skills:
  • Strong analytical ability to dissect complex processes.
  • Proficiency in relational and non-relational databases.
  • Strong communication and the capacity to see beyond the immediate scope.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively in fast-paced settings.
  • Self-motivation with a detail-oriented approach and a collaborative spirit.
Experience:
  • 5 years+ experience Microsoft SQL Server.
  • SQL Server Clustering, Replication and High Availability.
  • Proven track record in SQL Server database performance tuning.
  • Experience in upgrading and migrating legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
