Were seeking a future team member for the role of Counsel to join our EMEA Cross Markets & Clearance and Collateral Management (" CCM") & International Treasury Regulatory Legal team. This role is located in UK - minimum of 3 days in office per week. In this role, youll make an impact in the following ways:

  • The successful candidate will be part of the Cross Markets, CCM & International Treasury Regulatory Legal team, focusing on regulatory matters impacting all Markets, CCM and International Treasury businesses, including advising on, and assisting with, EUand UK regulatory change and strategic and unprecedented legal initiatives for BNYMs EMEA legal entities.
Key responsibilities will include: • Work closely with and support the Senior Managing Counsel in the Cross Markets, CCM & International Treasury Regulatory Legal team. • Advise on law and regulation applicable in the UK and EU and identify the impact on Markets, CCM and International Treasury, working together with the relevant line of business lawyers. • Identify regulatory change affecting template documents across Markets, CCM and International Treasury and advise on necessary amendments required to ensure contracts remain compliant with local law and regulation. • Coordinate with the public policy and regulatory affairs team to keep abreast of horizon scanning and work closely with line of business lawyers to assist with regulatory change and strategic initiative implementation. • Advise business managers, relationship managers, commercial and back-office teams as well as Compliance, Risk and Credit officers on legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with the Markets business. • Provide updates on regulatory matters to business risk committees and other relevant committees for EMEA Markets. • Engage and manage outside counsel in accordance with corporate guidelines. • Liaise with legal colleagues in other jurisdictions (including with Markets, CCM and International Treasury coverage lawyers in the EU, US and APAC), including obtaining advice on law and regulation from legal colleagues in such jurisdictions. • Represent EMEA legal in working on new projects, regulation and initiatives generally across Markets, CCM and International Treasury in EMEA. • Support International businesses in EMEA, maintaining essential market access/licensing advice in the EMEA region. To be successful in this role, were seeking the following:
  • A law degree and qualified as a solicitor or equivalent with ideally 5-8 years PQE with equivalent length of legal experience in the financial services sector (preferably with some in-house experience).
  • Experienced in, advising on regulatory change.
  • Experience of any of derivatives, collateral services (including triparty collateral management), custody and clearing, securities lending agreements generally would also be an advantage.
  • This role will present an opportunity to develop, and gain experience of those areas in which the candidate is not familiar. It is therefore important that any candidate is adaptable and dynamic, willing to take on new challenges and expand their experience.
