Job Description

As a Communications Manager you will work alongside project teams and the supply chain, delivering communications for maintenance and major improvement projects on our network as well as some of the regions operational and safety activities. You will focuson communications, engagement and consultation activity to support projects and campaigns and raise National Highways profile and reputation with customers and stakeholders in the region. The role will involve regular travel within the region to attend meetings,deliver events and obtain communications content, such as interviews and video footage. There will also be a requirement for occasional travel to other National Highways offices and venues outside the region.You will also support the Senior Regional Communications Manager, providing trusted communications and public relations advice to regional directors and other senior leaders. You will also provide occasional support to other National Highways regions to helpwith cover during holidays etc.This is a challenging and fulfilling role that will take your career to the next level.What youll be leading on

  • The delivery of communications campaigns to facilitate consultations, engagement and two-way dialogue with customers to inform the design of major road maintenance and improvement proposals.
  • You will be leading on communications activity and story telling to support National Highways construction activity so that customers understand why roadworks are necessary and the benefits.
  • You will support national campaigns at a regional-level, promoting our core themes of environment, innovation, safety and customer.
  • Work with National Highways supply chain and specialist communications team such as Press & PR, Insight, Digital, Public Affairs and Creative Design to co-ordinate, develop and deliver integrated campaigns.
  • You will be responsible for all content on our regional webpages and social media platforms.
  • Fostering successful relationships with communications counterparts in the supply-chain and at other organisations, to build our network, improve supplier performance and secure stakeholder advocacy.
  • Measuring and reporting on the success of campaigns and providing recommendations to the Leadership Team on future improvements for both outcomes and investments.
  • Performance management of communication delivery from the supply chain.
To be successful
  • Demonstrable experience as a communications professional in a complex environment.
  • Experience of leading communications campaigns and storytelling across multiple channels.
  • A proven track record of working with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders to manage complex and contentious projects and issues.
  • Experience of leading communications to support customer engagement and consultation activity in line with Government consultation principles.
  • Specialist communications knowledge and experience, underpinned by relevant professional qualifications or training.
