Job Description

Chemical Operator TechnicianManchesterDay based roleCompetitive salary + packageWe are working with a multinational fine chemical company in Manchester who are seeking a dayshift-based Operator Technician to join their team.The role will give support to the Production Department and report directly into the Production Manager. You will have numerous areas of responsibility (detailed below) and this will mean supporting colleagues in the wider plant mainly, and following instructions to run chemical processes. All in a safe and professional manner, in order to produce results to high quality and within time and cost.What you’ll do:You will be working in a chemical plant that makes highly refined products for future use in Pharmaceuticals and other highly controlled chemical manufacturing processes. You will be working on a team of Production Operators and supporting plant processes. This will involve working to industrial standards like GMP.Further duties of this role are:

  • Following chemical process instructions based on batch sheets in a safe and productive manner.
  • Charging reactor vessels, milling chemicals, discharging vessels, packaging products for release to clients, moving chemistry around site and keeping organisation standards high in the plant area and warehouse.
  • To work closely with the shift chemists and senior operators and learn how the plant works and operates, providing cover and support when required.
  • Be able to work and operate in a safe manner understanding safety procedures for the plant.
  • To confidently and correctly operate equipment according to current SOP’s.
  • Transferring/sampling materials in a safe manner on and around the site as required following current SOP’s.
  • Milling and sieving final products according to batch records and current SOP’s.
  • Loading and unloading of material from drying ovens.
  • Helping towards the companies 5S programme across the whole site.
  • To provide support to the waste team in removing waste safely off site.
  • To be reposnsible for maintaining plant consumable stock levels.
  • Your background:
  • GCSE’s in Maths, English and Science required.
  • City and Guilds Process Operations Parts 1 & 2 would be desirable but not essential
  • Experience of working in a chemical plant environment.
  • Experience of driving a counter balance Fork Life Truck (FLT), with up to date licence preferred.
  • Requires a good knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in a working plant environment.

  • High motivated and an exceptional work ethic is essential.
