Job Description

We have an exciting new role come in for a Catering Assistant to work for Greater Manchester Police at their headquarters in Manchester.This is a temporary role until December with a view of being extended for a further 6 months thereafter. You will be working Monday to Friday 36.25 hour a week.PURPOSE OF THE ROLE - To help provide and maintain a high standard of food and beverage service to the customer and to assist in the smooth running of the unit.MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESService

  • To serve all food and beverages as required.
  • To accept cash for transactions as required.
  • To promote good customer/staff relations.
  • To bank monies at close of service when required.
  • Be prepared to cover at other units within the catering group as required - Sedgley Park & Nexus House
Hygiene
  • To ensure the cleanliness of kitchen equipment, fixtures, utensils and areas (including walls).
  • To ensure the highest possible standards of personal hygiene and appearance.
  • To ensure the correct and hygienic handling of foodstuffs.
Cleaning Duties
  • The removal of all dirty crockery, cutlery etc. from dining room and other areas (including night kitchen).
  • The cleaning of dining room tables and chairs.
  • The washing up of all dirty crockery, cutlery and other items of light equipment (including night kitchen equipment).
  • To undertake general dining room preparation.
  • To undertake the cleaning of kitchen floors.
  • To undertake the cleaning of heavy equipment as required.
Food Preparation Duties
  • To prepare and cook all food as required and aid/deputise for Unit Catering Manager as required.
Safety
  • To ensure all equipment and utensils used in respect of normal duties are handled/operated in a safe manner and are in a safe condition.
Other Areas
  • To secure canteen equipment and premises when required.
  • To promote and comply with GMPs policies on health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
  • Comply with and promote equality legislation and GMPs policies on diversity and equality. Take steps to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations.
  • To fully participate in GMPs development review process.
  • If you have responsibility for staff; to manage staff development, performance and attendance using appropriate GMP policy and procedure.
  • To comply with the requirements of GMPs policies on Drug and Alcohol testing - requirements in respect of specific posts/ roles are described in the policies which are available on the Intranet/SharePoint.
  • All staff and officers must adhere to and comply with Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Human Rights legislation and the Authorised Professional Practice (Information Management). It is the responsibility of all staff and officers to maintaindata quality and security. Therefore when inputting, updating and using GMP information, you are to ensure that it is Accurate, Adequate, Relevant and Timely (AART), and that it is used / disclosed for business purposes only and kept secure. The most currentguidance and advice in respect of compliance with the legislation and information / records management standards can be found on the Information Management Intranet site/Information Services SharePoint site.
  • Supervisors and managers have the additional responsibility of ensuring that staff undertake the appropriate training and fully understand and apply the required Force policy, procedures and information / records management standards in the course of theirduties. Supervisors and managers should ensure that staff / officers understand their responsibilities in maintaining data quality and security and have appropriate processes in place to monitor compliance.
  • To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene, food hygiene and Health and Safety procedures. (Training will be given in the use of techniques, procedures, policies and the safe handling of equipment/materials).
  • Displays the capability to carry out administrative duties e.g. receive cash for food, check/bank monies etc.
  • Prepared/cooked food and carried out general catering duties including service delivery.
  • City and Guilds 706/1, 706/2 or equivalent.
  • Has achieved a good attendance record.
  • Fit to carry out duties including lifting, carrying, loading/unloading and handling equipment/ materials
  • Prepared to work in a team and be mobile on request.
  • Prepared to work in a hot, humid environment, with noise and cooking odours
  • Clean and tidy (including dress, hair, teeth, nails, etc.).
