Our clients are a successful Law Firm based in the heart ofSpinningfields and have a vacancy for a Benefits Expert within the Court of Protection team. This role would suite someone who has previously worked at Job Centres, DWP, Local Councils or similarGovernment Departments.The key responsibilities are:Giving support and advice to colleagues and clients with Welfare Benefit enquires.Checking eligibility and award letters, doing routine benefits calculations and yearly Welfare Benefit reviews.Notifying the Department for Work and Pensions of any change of circumstances that may increase or decrease Welfare Benefit income.Advising on available sources of income and assisting with maximising income from Welfare Benefits.Challenging incorrect decisions and submitting mandatory reconsiderations and appeals.Considering Welfare Benefit regulations and how these can be applied to client circumstances.Completion of Health and Disability questions for all relevant Welfare Benefits.Preparing and lodging appeal submissions for tribunal hearing and representing clients who do not have the capacity to represent themselves.Preparing and delivering Welfare Benefits training to internal and external colleagues.The following skills are essential:Recent and ongoing experience of providing Welfare Benefits advice.Advanced knowledge of Welfare Benefits, able to deal with more complex issues in a system where Universal Credit and legacy benefits coexist.Knowledge of how compensation claims are treated by the Department for Work and Pensions.Experience of challenging Welfare Benefits decision at all levels and preparing legal arguments based on social security legislation and recent case law.Ability to check benefit award and preform calculations, identifying entitlement to benefits, additional elements, premiums, rates, and backdated payments.Ability to explore and apply welfare benefit regulations to maximise income. The following skills are desirable:Understanding of the Court of Protection and deputy responsibilities in relation to OPG guidelines and Welfare Benefits.Basic understanding of the Mental Health Act.Experience of dealing with vulnerable adults who lack capacity. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:A commitment to excellent client care and enthusiasm for court of protection work.Excellent IT skills particularly with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook.Ability to communicate well orally and in writing, including dealing directly with clients when required.Attention to detail.Exceptional organisational skills.Numerate.Strong team working ethic.Effective administrative skills.If you are interested and have the relevant experience please submit your CV.
