Please ensure that this last section is tailored to show your suitabilityfor this role and includes a short paragraph why are interested in working for the GMCA.Your role:The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is looking to recruit an Analyst to join the GMCAs Research Team, with a specific focus on "life readiness". This post will directly support GMCAs work to help ensure all our children and young people leave educationand training ready to succeed in the labour market with a balance of academic, technical and life ready skills.The primary purpose of the role will be to provide a dedicated research and analysis function to the Assistant Director for Education, Skills and Employment within the Combined Authority, in relation to the following policy areas and programmes:

  • Careers education - supporting Greater Manchesters network of business, education leaders and careers professionals to provide young people with a careers programme fit for the 21st century.
  • Connecting young people with opportunities - supporting key programme areas linked to Greater Manchesters online careers portal, GMCAS and broader GMs Curriculum for Life agenda.
  • Supporting young people with barriers to participation - understanding participation in the economy and key post-16 transitions.
  • Working with Greater Manchester Careers Hub leads to provide a bespoke analysis of the networks existing data - relating to careers education benchmarking (Compass+) and wider programme management information
  • Working with GMACS strategic leads and the provider of the online platform to develop insights and intelligence reports for a range of partners, drawing on a host of available analytics
  • Generating insights reports and briefings from key data sources such as the Greater Manchester #BeeWell survey, ensuring that the voice of young people is at the heart of the analysis programme
  • Working with GMCA youth employment leads to maximise and deepen current insights on young people Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET)
  • Working closely with colleagues based in the existing Research Team within the Careers and Enterprise comany to prepare a data and insights development roadmap for 2023/24
The body of research and analysis generated through the pilot is intended to put Greater Manchester at the forefront nationally, in terms of strengthening the evidence base in this important policy area. The ultimate ambition is that key audiences - schoolsand colleges, local businesses, local authorities, skills providers and central government - all have a clear view our current service offer and evidence to inform future policy development and strategic direction (What outcomes are we achieving What barriersto young people face What are the strengths and weaknesses of our current offer, in terms of priority cohorts, disadvantaged young people, priority places)About you:The role requires a strong technical skillset in research, with applications welcome from researchers and/or data analysts looking to start a career in a relevant field. The successful individual will also be able to demonstrate their ability to explainresearch findings and making them meaningful to a range of audiences (written and verbal communication skills), as well as the ability to work in a team in a fast-paced environment.Attitudes and mindset is also something we think is really important.
