Job Description

International Trade and Customs Officer£17,000-£22,000pa (£21,500-27,500 FTE) depending on experience4 day working week (09:00-17:00hrs)Manchester/Manchester airport with remote/flexible workingWhat we doGreater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is the largest accredited chamber of commerce in the UK with circa 4,500 members. They have been preparing for the changes that have resulted in the UK departure from the EU, expanding their service offering and opening up new career opportunities for unique individuals who are keen to develop a successful career in international trade.The Chamber has been in existence for more than 225 years and ensures that it adapts to the everchanging business landscape which offers the right mix of flexibility and support to its members and customers. This role will give you a unique insight into different businesses and an exciting opportunity to develop your current skills and future career.The RoleThis is an entry level role for individuals who are self-starters, pro-active with great attention to detail, who have a natural desire to learn and a strong commercial attitude with the desire to keep up with the ever changing global trade landscape.Whilst having experience or knowledge on customs declaration, export documentation or other areas of international trade will be an advantage, it is certainly not a must, as training will be provided. The successful candidate will be able to learn on the job we well as via training and CPD courses. We are open to hear from individuals who have transferrable skills and are keen to build a long-term career in international trade.Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deal effectively with enquiries and provide quality practical advice, support and guidance to clients and members regarding international trade, export documentation, customs declarations, and other global growth services.
  • Effective and accurate processing of customs declaration services in line with UK and international regulations and support accurate processing of export documentation services
  • Provide effective support in the delivery or marketing activities to promote our international trade and customs related services, including delivery of training and international events, and conduct research and data analysis
  • Work with the management team supporting relationship and partnership building activities and provide assistance in the delivery of funded aid and commercial projects
  • Knowledge. Qualification and Experience
  • Business and/or International Business-related Degree or equivalent experience
  • General understanding of international trade
  • Knowledge of import and export processes (eg commodity codes, incoterms, duties etc)
  • A fair understanding of global trade and key changes impacting the way nations trade with each other
  • Desirable
  • Experience of working on international trade, customs declarations and logistics an advantage
  • Experience of working in marketing including social media to promote business services
  • Qualifications related to the delivery of customs declarations
  • Qualification or experience in project and/or event management
  • TrainingThe successful candidate will be expected to complete specific training courses to fulfil their duties within 3-12 months in Customer Declaration, International Trade (full and half day courses), Export Documentation.BenefitsWe offer career progression and development opportunities and a 4-day working week to support you in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
