Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a School Business Manager to add value and governance across a broad range of functions including Operations, Finance, Business Administration, IT and facilities.One of the key areas will be managing the finance team to accurately record and report all finance matters to the senior leadership team and governors including preparation of statutory accounts for full external audit. This will include:

  • Preparing the annual budget as part of the three-year financial plan, working with and monitoring individual budget holders
  • Prepare monthly management accounts
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators.
  • Plan and monitor the cash flow and implement creditor and debtor policies
  • Oversee all payroll matters and HMRC and pension returns
  • Ensure all internal controls to reduce the risk of fraud or non-compliance
You will provide advice and recommendations on the strategic development of service support, utilisation of assets and the development of business activity, to ensure the best possible learning environment for both students and staff. You will be responsible for the HR functions of the school and act as the GDPR lead as well as undertaking line management of 6 staff and participate in Performance Management, including relevant training and development. The role encompasses researching and completing funding bids to external bodies as well as working with all Senior Leaders to maximise income generation and financial growth. In addition, your remit will include overseeing all procurement decisions and policiesincluding monitoring contracts and ensuring value for money on all expenditure. You will also line manage all site and facilities responsibilities including all building maintenance services and health and safety. Suitable applicants will have extensive prior experience of financial management within a school environment but will also have had exposure to the broader business operations of a school or academy with a track record of results that demonstrate the driveto continuously improve school operations. You must be an excellent leader with strong interpersonal skills to develop positive relationships, team spirit and embrace the collective vision.
