We are seeking to appoint a highly committed and self-motivated part time Activities Instructor / Teacher, to join our Outdoor Education department based at Senior Boys, but delivering across all divisions within the School in February 2021.The main role will be focused on paddle sports instructor & coaching; canoeing and kayaking, but if suitably qualified, also coaching sailing and leading DofE expeditions. The post holder should be as a minimum BC Level 2 Coach.Strong applicants will have higher NGB qualifications including RYA Dinghy Instructor, Race Coach and MLTB/SLUK walking. Applicants should be a confident user of IT and ideally worked in a school environment as a Children’s Outdoor Activity Instructor.The hours of the post vary with the seasons and the number of students engaging with the department’s outdoor activities. The department typically operates Monday through Saturday afternoons during term time, but some full weekends and school holiday work will be required. Typically, staff work 3-4 days per week with 6 hours/day during summer and 4 hours/day in winter.Department OverviewThe Outdoor Education (OE) Department encompasses a dedicated Sailing team of 8 staff who work on a part-time basis to deliver sailing to students as both a sports option during curriculum time and an after-school outdoor activity; a DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) team made of up staff across the school’s 3 sites delivering training and outdoor expeditions; and providing support across the schools to deliver or advise on a number of further outdoor activities including kayaking, raft building, team building, orienteering, and bush craft.Currently, 11 staff are members of the department and in addition, the department works with senior staff across all schools. The department typically operates Monday through Friday afternoons during term time. The school is seen as a leading deliverer of sailing and there are a number of Teaching staff within the department who are regarded as experts in their field. The department is able to deliver national level courses and qualifications in the Outdoor Learning sector.
