This is an exciting area that hasn’t been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.About the Opportunity: We have an exciting three-year opportunity for a postdoc working within AstraZeneca’s Chemical Development organisation located in Macclesfield, United Kingdom. The Macclesfield site houses the global teams and facilities for flow chemistry, catalysis, process safety and process analytical testing (PAT). In addition, we boast state-of-the-art equipment for all synthetic and analytical requirements. With exposure to the large-scale lab and pilot plant on site, there is also opportunity to experience developing a process and see it transition from lab to manufacture. The post-doctoral fellow will benefit from excellent in-house expertise as well as academic expertise in the field.Why is this project important Amide bonds are found in 25% of marketed pharmaceuticals. Despite this, more sustainable and cost effect methods are sought for this bond formation. The successful candidate will therefore be responsible for developing continuous catalytic amide bond formations to address this unmet need. This is a high impact area and the candidate will work closely with 2 leading academics who are in full support of this project.Upon success, the methodology will have an immediate impact in the pharmaceutical sector with high impact publications expected. This fantastic position will provide the candidate training in a range of disciplines, including high through experimentation, reaction optimisation, data handling and continuous processing. In addition, the candidate will be accountable for communication of the science internally to multiple groups, but externally also to the wider scientific community.
