Head of Scientific AlliancesLocation - Cheshire (Hybrid Working)Sector - Drug DiscoverySalary: Competitive - depending on experienceOur client is a leading organisation, serving to drive the advancement of the UK Drug and Medicine sector. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance drug discovery programmes across a range of therapeutic areas including oncology,cardiovascular and neurodegenerative. Based in Alderley Park, they are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Discovery Team as a Head of Scientific Alliances. This is an out of lab role and has hybridworking options, approx. 2 days a week in the office. If you are a Leading Scientist and have prior experience in forming and developing long-term, interorganisational partnerships, then this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.The RoleThis is a role for highly experienced Drug discovery / translational medicine experts who hold a PhD (or Masters) in a biologically focused discipline and significant experience in leading, directing and forming collaborations within life sciences.My client create alliances; disease based groups of organisations, set up with the purpose of driving disease research and treatments of various areas including neurological/CNS and fibrosis. This is done through a patient-focused approach to bring togetheracademic institutions, industrial partners, patient-groups and charities. The purpose of the role will be to establish new, and nurture existing alliances.As my clients new Head of Scientific Alliances, you will be responsible for:

• Oversee and act as a key decision maker on Alliance projects, leading an established team for UK based projects.
• Acting as a member of the Leadership Team, driving the Discovery function within the business.
• Managing existing external partner collaborations and leading future development and direction of these collaborations.
• Acting as line manager to other line managers from a range of scientific and professional backgrounds.
• Creating national R&D programmes, taking into account budget, strategy and operational factors
• Internal communication in a matrix environment.

Skills and Experience Needed:Suitable applicants will have:

• A PhD or Masters - within a biological or related field (essential)
• Recent and significant experience in managing large drug discovery projects. (essential)
• Strong understanding of the life-sciences and medical research landscape within the UK (essential)
• Proven experience in managing and/or setting up bespoke collaborations between like-minded scientific organisations. This could be a medical charity, biotech/pharmaceutical industrial company, academic institution, or government back research centre (essential)
• An understanding and proven ability to account for budgets, timelines / deadlines, internal and external communication. (essential)
• Previous line management experience (essential)
• An understanding of one therapeutic area (essential). Various therapeutic areas would be preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong professional life sciences network (essential)
