Job Description

Do you have a passion and proven technical skills to help deliver digital improvementSouth Norfolk and Broadland Council have a exciting opportunity for a Developer to join their team based in Long Stratton, NR15 2XE or Norwich NR7 0DU. This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary circa £26,493 per annum. This is an exciting time to join our organisation as you will help us build our one team ethos.Role Snapshot South Norfolk and Broadland Councils have a jointly agreed IT/Digital strategy to implement single consolidated solutions to deliver services to both local authorities and their residents, businesses and visitors.As a key member of a small development team you will play an important role in the development of new online transactional web services, to continuously improve our online presence through our website and personalised customer account, as well as buildingintegration and automation to our business systems.Engaging with our key business owners, you will help to analyse requirements and contribute to producing robust specifications. Working through the full development life cycle, either individually or with the wider development team, you will deliver solutionsand processes that improve efficiencies and support our front line and back-office teams.What you could be part ofYou will be working within a busy IT/Digital team using a range of development tools to create solutions for both our internal and external customers.The current team of 26 staff is split over two primary work locations, one in Long Stratton (10 miles South of Norwich) and the other in Thorpe St Andrew close to the centre of Norwich, as well as opportunities to work remotely from home.Covering a wide range of business areas across both Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils, you will be involved in supporting 126,000 properties and a joint electorate of 213,000 people. Continuous improvement is also vital and we challengeourselves to develop new and innovative ways to improve the services that make a real difference to peoples lives.What youll be doing as our Developer:

  • Developing internal and external transactional e-forms
  • Providing support and development to our website, including our My Account and My Area web applications
  • Providing support and development to our corporate intranet
  • Building integrations, interfaces and automations to our back-office and cloud-based systems using a mixture of APIs and RPA technologies
  • Database support and development (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle and Progress)
  • Developing mobile solutions for field-based officerss
As our Developer, we are looking for
  • A proven ability of object-orientated programming with knowledge and experience in some of the following languages and frameworks: ASP.NET Core, C#, Visual Basic, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and REST APIs
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems, e.g., Jadu (website) and Umbraco (intranet)
  • Knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System
  • Numeracy and literacy skills, minimum GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • A logical approach to problem solving
  • Good IT, communication and customer service skills
