Job Description

Youth WorkerTower Hamlet £20/hrStart date: 22/01/24Introduction:Young Tower Hamlets is our new youth service that has been created to provide a diverse programme of free opportunities and support for young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with SEND) across the borough. We are looking for passionate individuals with a keen interest to work with and inspire young people, making a difference in their life, supporting them to have voice & influence on services and to engage in positive activities within a universal open accessyouth setting. You will be a part of a team that provides year-round safe spaces across the borough, bringing a variety of different methods and skills that aid in planning, organising and delivering universal and targeted youth activities and programmes. You will support/ manage in the planning and delivery of projects that focus on issues like health, bullying, transitions, sexuality/ gender, crime, gangs, or drugs including community and social events for the young people, help design and organise activityprogrammes that engage young people into informal educational programs and youth recreational activities such as sports, arts and drama whilst assessing young peoples health, social and emotional requirements. Skills and knowledge:Key skills and knowledge for this role include:* Communication skills - presentation, verbal & written * The ability to work well on own initiative and with others * Sensitivity and understanding of young peoples current issues, challenges and needs* Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations* To have a can do attitude, be thorough and pay attention to detail* Demonstrate sincerity with active listening and a non-judgemental approach* The ability to be objective, impartial and accountable* Technological knowledge - IT Microsoft suite, databases* Able to collaborate with young people, professionals, stakeholders and the communityWorking environment:You will be required to work from any Tower Hamlets council or Other delivery sites within the borough as required for service delivery but will have a primary base to work from. Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding and outdoorssome of the time.Note: roles are in person / face to face direct delivery working with young people in a Universal Youth Work settings across Tower Hamlets and will involve indoor / outdoor including some weekend working, prior notice will be provided.Qualifications & Experience: The following will be considered.* Youll need a minimum of a Level 2/3 NVQ JNC recognised Youth Support Worker qualification or something similar (Sports, Teaching, Youth Justice)* Applications from candidates currently undertaking a formal qualification to work with young people. * Applicants currently in Full Time/Part Time education will be considered for part time roles.* Applications from candidates with a min of 2 years experience of working with young people Contractual hours of work:We are currently looking for staff who can work flexibly to meet our service delivery needs. We are looking for staff who can meet one of the following contractual hours or work patterns:- Full Time T 35 hours pw - Part Time 17.5 and 10.5 hours a weekCANDIDATES MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:* Enhanced DBS check* Willingness to be flexible and travel in and around the boroughSummary of Youth Worker role: * To deliver as part of a team projects across the borough as directed, that provides year round, universal and targeted youth activities and programmes, using a variety of methods centre based, universal and targeted youth activities and programmes, that enablethe formal and informal learning and personal and social development of children and young people primarily aged 11+ and up to 25 with SEND* To work with the team lead, support and assist in administrative tasks including providing information (verbally or in writing), and reporting on the work, supporting the planning and delivery of youth activities and ensuring that youth activities and programmesare published in a timely fashion, and delivered to a high standard. * To achieve delivery of any apportioned performance targets that relate to the youth activity and programmes, collating data and information on young people attending the project / programme, ensuring that data is regularly inputted onto the service MIS database,preparing statistical reports as and when required to verify and evidence delivery and the quality of work being undertaken.* To provide individual and group support to young people through assessing the needs of individual/ group of young people through 1:1/ group support; undertaking the development and monitoring of individual learning plans, mentoring, and coaching young peopleand working in partnership with other agencies to deliver interventions, providing feedback where required.
