Job Description

We are currently looking for a temporary Web Developer to start towards the end of April for 3 months. The position will be remote working, you would be required to use your own laptop as the system used will web based. The working hours are 35 hours per week Monday - Friday. Pay £21.05ph. If you have Higher Education experience this would be an advantage but not essential. We are looking for the skills below:Specific Tasks

  • The primary task will be updating our PHP-, Javascript- and HTML- based Content Builder tool with the latest versions of our HTML components. This tool is used by colleagues to create HTML components, even if they dont feel comfortable writing or editing HTML. We have made several changes to the HTML of our components and created new components in recent months but have not been able to update the Builder to reflect these, meaning that new or updated components can only be used by those who are comfortable working with HTML and that some content building tasks are taking longer. Your task will be to bring the Builder up-to-date with the HTML we currently have in production.
  • CSS styling of components and pages will be a secondary task and more ad hoc. We often write CSS to override default styles on Moodle according to UX specifications. This could be as straightforward as changing the margin on a single button or as complex as writing an entire stylesheet to override the UI of a certain type of page. You will be assigned self-contained CSS development tasks that will require you to identify the class and IDs of relevant elements (as we often cannot make changes to HTML of certain pages), write very specific CSS selectors, and implement the measurements, colours, sizes, etc outlined in the spec provided by UX. You will then test this implementation to make sure it works on different devices and browsers before we release the changes to users.
  • Technical Knowledge and Experience
  • Expertise with HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and PHP.
  • Experience with dev-ops technologies such as Git and Grunt, as well as front-end frameworks, libraries and preprocessors like Bootstrap, JQuery and Sass.
  • Ability to work in agile environments and use supportive digital tools such as Trello and Slack.
  • Experience working with open-source learning management systems such as Moodle would be a bonus.
  • If this is the role for you, then apply today! Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
