Job Description

Raleigh International is seeking doctors, nurses and paramedics to join our sustainable development programmes in Nepal and Costa in 2021, with a range of opportunities to join from between 6 to 13 weeks. Develop your leadership, clinical and expedition medicine skills and support young people in this essential role on our overseas programmes.Who is Raleigh InternationalRaleigh International is a youth-driven sustainable development organisation. You will have an essential role fostering the development of our young volunteers, ensuring the safe delivery of our programmes and directly contributing to our projects yourself.Being a Volunteer MedicOur opportunities are divided into Project and Field base roles for our Medics. As a Project Medic, you will: Be based on our project sites with a team of young volunteers (aged 17-24) alongside one or two other project managers (our projects work to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene, build resilient communities, protect vulnerable environments and build leadership and teamwork skills in our young volunteers). Deliver basic First Aid training to volunteer teams in their induction. Look after the general health of our volunteers and take a key role during any medical emergencies. Encourage and motivate the volunteers to effectively deliver their projects while helping to foster their own personal development.As a Field base Medic, you will: Be part of the central operations team that responds to incidents. Give medical one-to-one support for the project managers without a Medic in their team to ensure that they and their team safely deliver their projects, developing your telemedicine and remote leadership skills. Prepare team medical kits once you arrive, with support from the in-country Operations Manager and UK medical team. Review all medical information for our volunteers and follow up communication with the UK medical team. Be the key point of contact for documenting medical reports through our online confidential records system. Learn about the behind the scenes running of an Expedition, getting to grips with all its logistical challenges along the way. Deliver basic First Aid training to the teams in their induction. Look after the general health of the volunteers and take a key role during any medical emergencies.In both roles, you will experience living in a completely new and exciting environment and be actively involved in projects organised in partnership with local communities, NGOs and environmental groups. You will have the support of each other across the project sites and field base, as well as the medical team based in the UK.When can I goBecause of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, we have updated the structure of our programmes and created more opportunities for you to get involved on an Expedition, with a unique range of dates to join in 2021.Costa Rica: 21 Jun - 18 Sep (13 weeks) 22 Jun - 9 Sep (11 weeks) 22 Jun - 4 Aug (6 weeks) 5 Aug - 17 Sep (6 weeks)Nepal: 17 Jun - 29 Aug (10 weeks) 20 Jun - 23 Aug (9 weeks) 17 Jul - 4 Sep (7 weeks)Raleigh International is closely monitoring the global situation surrounding the outbreak and will continue to regularly review and provide updates of any changes made to these planned Expeditions to ensure the safety of you, our staff and communities where we work.You must have at least two years post-qualification experience, and medical skills that are transferable to remote static environments. We require fundraising for our programmes but this covers all expenses when you are in-country.
