Job Description

Role: Trust and Foundations ManagerDepartment: Sponsorship & Partnerships Team, DevelopmentHours: 32 hours per week (4 days)Reports to: Senior Sponsorship & Partnerships Manager____________________________________________________________________About thisroleOur Development team is responsible for significant fundraising to sustain the many activities of the Academy. We are seeking an experienced and sophisticated fundraiser to implement the strategy for maximising grants and donations from private, institutionaltrusts, foundations and livery companies to support RA exhibitions and RA Schools fundraising projects.About youThe successful candidate will possess at least 4 years experience in fundraising or a high net worth sales capacity, as well as a background ofboard and stakeholder management. Socially confident, diplomatic, with strong advocacy skills, you will be very comfortable at social events, unafraid of initiating contact and building good relationships with influential people.You will be a self-starter,a well-organised team player with excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to liaise confidently and professionally at all levels.You will be highly organised and have well developed strategic skills to be able to plan ahead, and predict and overcomeobstacles to ensure strict deadlines are met.In addition to having persuasive writing and reporting skills you will also have excellent financial acumen as developing grant proposals are an integral part of this role.Well-honed IT skills together with databaseknowledge are also essential. You must also be able to demonstrate a commitment to the vision and values of the Royal Academy and, ideally, a genuine interest in the visual arts.JOB DESCRIPTION MAIN OBJECTIVETo implement the strategy for maximising grantsand donations from private, institutional trusts, foundations, livery companies and individuals to support RA exhibitions, the RA Schools, the RA learning programme, the RA Collection and general unrestricted donations.MAIN DUTIES Works with the Senior SponsorshipManager to establish a cultivation strategy for all current and prospective trust, foundation and individual prospects for RA exhibitions, the RA Schools, the RA learning programme, the RA Collection and general unrestricted donations. Liaises with the RAExhibitions, RA Schools, Learning and Collections teams to develop materials for fundraising approaches. Takes an active approach to developing relationships with funders, including the submission of regular reports, accounts, invitations to RA events as wellas regular telephone communication and meetings. Writes grant proposals and ensures that all submission deadlines are met. Writes reports on projects to include summaries of activities and financials and ensures that all submission deadlines are met. Ensuresapproaches to identified individuals, trusts and foundations are made and followed up in an appropriate and timely manner. Liaises with senior RA staff and volunteers to ensure communication between potential funders and peers is maintained. Maintains anddevelops the individuals, trusts and foundations database. Work closely with the Major Gifts team and ensure that Major Gift prospects are passed to the Major Gifts team for cultivation and stewardship Works with the Major Gifts team to aid successful applicationsto trusts, foundations and individuals for Major Gifts campaigns. Reports to the Senior Sponsorship Manager on income and expenditure budgets for the trusts and foundations area. Takes responsibility for own administration, devises and implements appropriateprocesses and procedures to achieve agreed targets. Complies with all relevant Health & Safety policies, procedures and regulations and takes appropriate and reasonable care for the safety of colleagues and visitors to the Academy. Undertakes any other dutywhich may reasonably be allocated by the Senior Sponsorship Manager or other senior officer.PERSON SPECIFICATIONKnowledge and Experience Educated to degree level or equivalent At least 4 years experience of trust fundraising, ideally in the charitable givingsector First class knowledge of trusts, foundations, individuals, livery companies and funding bodies who may be sympathetic to the arts and education Proven track record of raising income to target Ideally experience of working with the Heritage Lottery Fundor similar funding body Experience of securing five and six figure gifts Experience of devising and maintaining budgetsQualities and Skills Excellent written and presentational skills, articulate, fluent and persuasive. A self-sufficient and confident personwho can work both individually and with other teams. An enquiring mind, researching prospective funders and keeping up-to-date with potential new funders. Ability to gather and present information, compile reports, make recommendations, set realistic timetables,to monitor progress, resolve difficulties and ensure plans are fully and successfully implemented. Ability to translate agreed strategy to achieved objectives. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: socially confident, diplomatic and with advocacyskills. Able to manage external contacts, forge strong links and encourage interest, a relationship builder. A team player: sharing and building on ideas, ability to take the lead on occasion as well as joining and supporting other initiatives. Well organised;an efficient administrator and project manager: able to co-ordinate own work programme, establish appropriate priorities, undertake own administrative work. Computer literate: knowledge of Tessitura database system an advantage. Able and willing to work flexiblehours. An active interest in the visual arts and a commitment to the aims and objectives of the Royal Academy.
