Job Description

Role: Paediatric Therapy AssistantSite: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children-LondonContract type: Permanent, full time hours 37.5hrsSalary: Competitive + Benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development)We’re looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our Paediatric team at The Portland Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC.This job will be working in The Portland Hospital in both inpatient and outpatients. This will be a role that supports the qualified Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists on a day to day basis whilst treating patientsunder the supervision of qualified staff.This is a varied role that includes administration, environmental and stock management alongside clinical tasks.Duties and responsibilities:

  • To assist the therapists and support the therapy service by carrying out delegated duties.
  • To treat own designated caseload of patients, utilising knowledge and skills gained through attainment of competencies, experience and / or relevant qualifications, under the direction of qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
  • To ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff to carry out physical activity.
  • To supervise patient’s clinical exercise programmes as prescribed by the qualified therapists.
  • To assist therapists with patient treatment sessions where an additional therapist is required.
  • Issue walking aids and equipment to patients under the direction of the therapists.
  • Assist Occupational Therapists with timely discharge, equipment orders and paperwork for community referrals.
  • Assist Speech and Language therapists to create and use bespoke communication resources.
  • To undertake a basic assessment of each patient’s condition prior, during intervention or as a response of any treatment by observing any significant change or analysing variations and accurately reporting these to the primary therapist.
