Job Description

DescriptionDescription: The Systems Engineer will be primarily responsible for the configuration and support of the Corvil solutions, integrations and ensuring consumers of the data are getting the information they need. The Metrics and Monitoring team has implemented several tools and solutions that provide visibility into the health, status and performance of many systems and services. This Systems Engineer will monitor Globex, CMEs electronic trading platform, criticalperformance metrics. The System Engineer will lead Corvils solutions to help monitor, measure and report on Globex latency and are relied upon across the enterprise. CME has a sizeable investment in Corvil technology and our Corvil deployment has continuedto grow along with its footprint in the data center. This Engineer will be engaged in developing secure, scalable and reliable technology solutions , providing support, analysis and continuity between the Corvil deployments across the QA, NR and Prod environments. Principle Accountabilities:

  • Focuses on the design, implement, support and maintenance of a large, global fleet of Corvil appliances and monitors system status to ensure operational readiness and complete monitoring of all environments and layers.
  • Manages the global Corvil deployment that provides visibility into message flows, and provides performance and latency metrics of the Globex trading platform.
  • Validates project deliverables, defines hardware and software requirements for new business initiatives and ensures internal customers are able to consume and utilize latency metrics in a sub second trading environment through maintaining Corvil configurations.
  • Develops and maintains Corvil integrations.
  • Collaborates with a cross functional team on architecture, design and system requirements to support new initiatives while ensuring application, network and system monitoring best practices.
  • Collaborates with our Global Information Security team to provide secure solutions.
  • Manages internal customer requirements, initiatives and requests.
  • In depth knowledge of monitoring industry standards and infrastructures and working knowledge of other system components and how they interact.
  • Configures highly available, scalable, secure monitoring infrastructures and modifies settings to ensure proper functionality.
  • Coordinates installations with data center engineering to rack and extend connectivity.
  • Participates in capacity planning to avoid problems with system reliability and throughput. Experienced with system and product performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Collaborates with Technical Operations and Business Operations teams on critical issues by evaluating the problem, proposing and implementing resolutions, and partnering with other teams (Networking, Development, etc.) as needed for the resolution.
  • Provide effective and timely solutions in a very fast-paced environment where multitasking and attention to detail is critical.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing complex technical problems and providing detailed analysis and recommendations. Troubleshoots issues, determines the root cause, provides solutions, and takes initiative to see the solution through. Verifies implementation andmakes adjustments as necessary. Documents solution, provides clarification and support to colleagues, and reviews work products of others within the team.
  • Accurately defines complex problem statements. Gathers and analyzes data about problems, simplifies/decomposes the problem to smaller problems to reduce complexity. Documents the details, prepares and presents analysis, seeking all feasible alternatives.Prioritizes alternatives and develops a plan for execution. Analyzes the consequences of each alternative with stakeholders including upstream/downstream impacts. Makes the decision, then takes the appropriate steps to implement and support the action decidedupon.
  • Proactively hardens processes and systems, and performs system audits as necessary. Automates manual processes via scripting and/or tools
  • Working knowledge of ITIL process and supporting procedures. Schedules and performs routine maintenance of systems, including but not limited to vulnerability remediation, software and hardware patches and upgrades.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, capable of managing time well, and works efficiently without close supervision in a very dynamic environment.
Desirable Skills:
  • Corvil Certification: Corvil Certified Performance Management Expert CCPME
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience:
  • Corvil engineer and sysadmin with several years experience working in financial services and a high frequency trading environment.
  • Trading applications, data communications and networking protocols, including packet capture and analysis implementing various methods / tools to collect and analyze traffic.
  • Scripting languages (Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby)
  • Automation and configuration tools (Chef, GIT, Stash, JIRA)
  • Linux, distributed computing architecture, hardware platforms and resources - CPU, memory and virtualization
  • Education: Bachelors Degree: Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical and Computer Engineering) or equivalent combination of education and relevant proven work experience.
