Job Description

Working With UsHarris Academy Beulah Hill is an extremely popular 11-19 academy. We deliver a broad and challenging curriculum to all our students in a calm and well-ordered environment. We have high expectations of all members of the school community. This is reflectedin our consistently high student performance at GCSE, progression to post 16 study at our sixth form and then on to some of the best universities in the country.Beulah Hill is a wonderful place to learn and teach. We have a very hardworking team of teachers and support staff; they provide a caring and welcoming atmosphere for our students. The Campus site is a huge site with close to 8 acres of school buildings,sports halls, gymnasium, tennis courts and large playing fields / athletic track thus providing excellent facilities for our students. Beulah Hill also has full-time basketball and football coaches through its partnership with Greenhouse and Kinetic. We haverecently invested over £1 million to further improve our outstanding facilities including the development of a state-of-the-art Design Technology room equipped with laser cuter and 3D Printers, Food room and a newly laid sports field to ensure all year-roundsporting opportunities. The Academy has a limit of 800 places across Year 7-11. We are unlike other schools; we do not want to expand at this moment in time, in fact we wish to remain small for as long as possible! This will ensure a small school where eachchild is known to staff and a caring environment can be provided.Beulah Hill is traditional in our approach to discipline and uniform, yet forward-thinking and at the cutting edge of curriculum development, learning and pedagogy. The Academy aims to develop the whole child. We have a real focus on progress and attainment,yet ensure students develop their cultural awareness. We have a breadth of extra-curricular activities including Drama, Creative writing, Chess, Food and Art Clubs alongside support and extension in traditional subjects. We are proud of our Campus; we areproud of our students and proud of the education that they receive. Main Areas of ResponsibilityYour responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising and supportingidentified students in 1:1, group or whole class situations, ensuring their safety and access to learning in a purposeful and supportive learning environment.
  • Assistingin developing resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies, working with the teacher to ensure the provision supports learning needs.
  • Assisting in evaluating identified students’ progress and providing feedback on their achievements, progress and needs.
  • Leadingsmall group sessions and interventions as appropriate.
  • Attending to students’ personal needs where required.
  • Supporting with behaviour management.
  • Undertaking learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities to ensure achievement of learning goals.
  • Assisting with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including playtimes and undertaking lunchtime duty.
  • Supporting students with their learning and development in respect of local and national learning strategies.
  • Preparing the classroom for lessons, clearing afterwards and assisting with the display of students’ work.
  • Preparingand maintaining resourcesand assistingstudents in their use.
  • Undertaking record keeping as requested.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents/carers, gathering and reporting information as directed.
  • Providing administrative support as required.
  • Accompanyingteaching staff and students on visits, trips and off site activities as required.
What We are Looking ForThe successful candidate will have:
  • Qualifications to degree level or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers
  • Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues in the workplace
  • Experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment, supporting the learning of students
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, at all levels
  • Experience of managing and being responsible for own workload
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with an excellent standard of written and spoken English
  • Good administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to interest, encourage, motivate and engage children
  • Ability to work effectivelywith team members across a wide range of levels and responsibilities
  • GoodICT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft packagesand the ability to update records and databases.
  • Ability to work using own initiative, exercising good judgement where unsupervised
  • Flexibility of approach to work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercising tact and diplomacy
